The Incredibles is the best Bond movie in years. I love Elastigirl’s visit to M’s^H^H^H E’s fashion design/weapon development lab.
“And machine washable, darling. That’s a new feature.”
There are so many in-jokes, pop culture references and satirical jibs (the scene where Edna explains why “No capes!” is priceless, as are the comments on “monologuing”) that you wouldn’t think Bird could wedge an actual story arc and characters in there; but he does. And there is a fantastic John Barry-esque score as well. (Originally Barry, who scored many Bond films, was supposed to compose for The Incredibles but dropped out for some reason, but Michael Giacchino did a great job of emulating his style.)
If you don’t like it, I’ll buy it from you, full price, no questions asked. And I don’t even have a TV (though this makes me want to buy one.)
I adore my local mom-and-pop video store for the way they always ignore posted release dates. They day they receive it is the day they put it on the shelf.
I’ve had my copy since last weekend.
As for the film itself, absolutely brilliant. Terrific writing, and the progress Pixar is making in CGI animation is getting more and more astounding with every release. Loved it!
That’s a shame; he’s done good work since, of course, but his Bond scores were definative; nobody else who has taken the task has even come close. I bought the soundtrack to Enigma just because it sounds like a very mournful Bond score.
Not sure when it went on sale here, but I’ve had my R1 version since Wednesday (the R3 version came out at the same time). Release dates don’t mean diddly hereabouts.
And yes, it’s pretty damn sweet, but the ‘new cartoon’, Jack-Jack Attack:
(spoiler about the nature of the 'toon, not the content.)
…isn’t really a new story, it’s more like a deleted scene, albeit a completely rendered and perfect addition, but it could have easily been edited into the movie as-is. Whether it was ever intended to be included in the original movie or not, I don’t know, but it’s not a stand-alone cartoon. You’d need to have seen the movie to understand it.
SERIOUS NOTE:Jack-Jack AttackSPOILS THE MOVIE!!! so watch the movie then watch that cartoon.
But yes, I’d give the disc a pretty close to perfect score. It’s THAT good!
