The internet is closing, what 3 websites do you keep?

SDMB

Facebook

YouTube

If a fourth were added, Fark.

It would be interesting to see “cite!” demands fulfilled with references to journals and books instead of Wikipedia and bias blogger sites.

  1. Paypal - to get paid
  2. Bank - to pay bills
  3. Youtube - to get news, etc.

Yeah, but not on the cached copies of all the pages.

Alas, TimeWarner closed usenet for many of us a year or more ago. Live it up while you can, dude.

Tough to choose.

Amazon
Straight Dope
Wikipedia

Bank
SDMB

and …
I was tempted to say Visual Thesaurus but remembered you can buy that as a stand-alone application. So for number three:

Netflix

I thought this was going to be easy, but then I saw this:

Oh gods, yes, this website is hilarious. There are days at work when I have to make deliberate efforts to not visit that site, because if I do, I may as well have showed up to work at noon. This makes things tricky now because the one I need is Amazon, but now that I think I might need cracked.com too, I’d have to get really choosy about the third.

Spark People
New York Times
Cracked

SDMB
Facebook
LiveJournal

BBC
Here
SomethingAwful

This would be terrible. I use the web to access all kinds of data in my line of work. This would probably put me out of business. :frowning:

Lemme see if I can pick 3.

www.msc.fema.gov

my bank’s website

Wikipedia
Facebook
Youtube

The big three. I’d definitely miss a lot, Amazon would be my 4th choice. The downside with choosing a forum is that you’re dependant on those who have also chosen that forum, it wouldn’t be the same forum.

Facebook, Amazon, and Wikipedia.

I gotta revise my list.

You do realize that without external links, wikipedia becomes almost useless, right?

How so? The only external links I see are cites and references.

Exactly. Without those, the site is just a bunch of yahoos stating their opinions (it still may be so with the references, but at least you know the origin).

I’ve rarely consulted the cite links, Wikipedia is still plenty useful as long as you treat the info with a little skepticism.

Be that as it may, one should take that into consideration when deciding the only 3 websites one can access.

I’d keep:

Amazon
YouTube
World of Warcraft.com
