The Invisible Palin Meltdown

(Bolding mine)

Pet peeve here: you mean “tack”, not “tact”.

Nooo, not you. Sorry, I should have been more clear.

I was just watching local news. A woman from a local Republican group admiringly said that “You know, we’re a soccer mom and Joe Sixpack family and she’s just real people.”

I, on the other hand, am Devo.

That’s because you liberals think you evolved up from little snails.

Can’t the Senate overule it’s presiding officer by a simple majority vote? That comes up alot in our “Can the VP preside over his own trial?” threads.

No problem!

Yes, real people are multimillionaires. There aren’t enough rolleyes in the world.

The McCains are mulitmillionaires, but the Palins are definately middle class. I’m not even sure if they’d qualify as upper middle class.

Well, here I go again, pointing backwards, doncha know? But watching that woman last night simper and smirk and wink just about, ya know, did me in. She is very nearly unbearable and I think Mr. McCain will, if he doesn’t already, think of her as the office wife whose voice alone would erode large mountains.

I never saw Mr. Biden speak before, had no real expectations of him, but he was just fine, gentlemanly, calm, and he knew his onions, you betcha.

Dear American friends, please elect Mr. Obama and Mr. Biden. Please.

Please.

In either event, we would just as soon you did not drag the SDMB into any further issues of this sort by repeating the rumor, here. Just drop it.

According to this, they appear to be worth over a million dollars, and that’s just the stuff we know about right now. Of course, according to Johnny M, that makes them middle-class.

AKA, Herb Tarlek’s wife, Lucille. And I nailed THAT one shortly after her annointing, thankyouverymuch.

When are we going to realize that Edie McClurg is a national treasure, worth her not-insubstantial weight in comedy gold?

The one thing that really jumped out at me last night was the rather straightforward repudiation of the Bush administration. She said something about how we shouldn’t look backward at the Bush administration. But the real zinger was her statement that the Bush administration had made “huge” mistakes. Goshdarnit!

(Bush, for his part, seemed to return the favor this morning when he thanked by name several congresscritters who made the Bailout Bill possible. McCain was not mentioned.)

The Palins are millionaires.

Millionaires are the new middle class.

Middle class, is, of course, the new poor.

Read Captain Carrot’s article. The Palins have over a number of years accumulated a modest but appreciable degree of wealth, apparently through some reasonably prudent investments, purchases from ageing family and plain old basic hard work. Their house Todd built himself with the aid of contractor buddies. Their plane, not at all unusual for an Alaskan, is a '58 Piper. Palin’s salary is a hundred and a quarter and Todd makes something less through two blue collar jobs. It doesn’t appear their mortgage has even been factored in yet.

Seriously, anyone’s gonna imply they’re stinkin’ rich? “Millions”? That’s effin loony. I bet dollars to donuts somewhere between 25 and 50% of married Dopers their age have assets that are somewhat similar and may in many cases well exceed that of the Palins.

From the linked article…
Add up the couple’s 2007 income and the estimated value of their property and investments and they appear to be worth at least $1.2 million. That would make the Palins, like Democratic vice presidential rival Joe Biden and his wife Jill, well-off but not nearly as wealthy as multimillionaire couples John and Cindy McCain and, to a lesser extent, Barack and Michelle Obama.

The Palins are distinguishable how? Gluttonous how? The fault finding and insinuation here has truly reached and exceeded the point where you’re doing your position far more harm than good.

Now, now. That’s a respectable Republican cloth coat.

Without even attempting to estimate what Todd Palin’s two seasonal jobs may bring in, are you seriously stating that an income of $125,000 a year is not more than the vast majority of Americans make in a year?

They’re upper middle class. Tell me both why that’s troubling and how it apparently distinguishes them if you will from any of the other Vice and/or Presidential candidates. Much is being made of their ‘wealth’. Really? Why?
