The 'I've got a feeling 21 is going to be a good year' MMP

Evening all. Nothing much to report as I have done nothing. Am trying to make it through New Year’s Day without watching one minute of football…so far, so good. Dinner was Fettuchini Alfredo which is assimilating into my system as I type.

Temperature got to 74F today, so a day off for my heating system, but only getting to 58F tomorrow.

{{{Dicey}}}. Hope things are improving again.

nellie, hopefully there are no leftover fireworks and you can catch up sleeping tonight.

talky, enjoy dipping.

hippy, saw the picture, you OK or just thinking about the vets?

OK, back to avoiding tackleball again. Catch y’all on day 2.

Baked fried chicken(made with sage), cornbread with ham and cheese, collards, and Hoppin’ John will be ready in 20min. That should help with the luck.

nellie, oddly enough, Gordie isn’t bothered by loud noise like gunfire or fireworks. But he did grow up in da Hood.

Just thinking about the vets and the dogs. I am a shooter. Things that go bang don’t scare me.

I just got home from my aunt’s house, where we had pork, sauerkraut, mashed taters and New Year’s pretzel (which is really a cake shaped like a pretzel, it’s a SW PA or maybe just a Pittsburgh thing). I also have leftovers for tomorrow. I’ve done all I can to make sure that 2021 is better than the clusterf**k that was 2020.

I didn’t drink my Barefoot pink moscato bubbly at midnight last night. I better get to that before I bring downfall on us all.

Black-eyed peas and rice have been prepared. No greens to be found near me, not that I looked that hard…

Happy New Year!

Happy 2021 to you too emily! It’s good to see you around.

I played around in the studio this evening and came up with a couple of good cards for next Christmas. Right now, I’m working up the scraps from the goody bags.

My parents are very fortunate that their church has a parish nurse, who can help the parishioners navigate the hospital system. My mom keeps saying she doesn’t want to bother her. And when she does, the nurse keeps saying she is really happy that my mom is reaching out to her and letting her help.

So I have to keep reminding my mom to call the parish nurse, who is very good at talking with nurses and doctors and getting the necessary information.

So the nurse (who is no longer working as a full-time nurse) called and got people to call my mom. My dad is settled comfortably again, and the medical team did scans, etc. and didn’t find anything else obviously wrong, except that the intestine is basically paralyzed, so it’s not working.

The surgeon will be back on Monday, so maybe there will be some other discussions. The resident she talked to yesterday clarified a number of points, so she has more information. I don’t know how hospitals normally work, but it seems that every time she calls she talks to a different resident. I have no idea if that’s normal, due to the current Covid situation, or due to the holiday season.

In other news, my mom now knows how to call using Facebook Messenger. Maybe she can try that with my dad as well, so at least they can see each other a bit more. If my mother would be able to visit, at least she could be there for him emotionally, plus others would be able to visit.

Anybody else familiar with the term thundermug? My dad has a number of synonyms for bathroom, and this was the first time I had heard thundermug.

I had thought I would write Christmas cards on Christmas. This morning I decided that’s not happening. I’m putting the cards I bought with the Christmas decorations for next Christmas and sending postcards to those who send us Christmas cards.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 65 Amurrkin out and foggy with a predicted high of 66 and rain for the day. This rain is on it’s way from the gulf coast. We also have a flash flood watch/warnin’ in effect today. We have no plans to be out and about. Inside and dry sounds like the smart thing to do today. There are some leftovers from yestiddy which shall get et up. Sloth shall rule the day!

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Sattidy Y’all!

So far, the new year is good - I’ve had 2 good sleeps - till nearly 6 this morning! Huzzah!!

But we’re not going to get the 60° that was promised earlier in the week for today. Mid 50s maybe and a little sun maybe. Still, I’m going to turn off the pellet stove and let it cool so I can clean out the accumulated ash. The next 2 weeks are showing highs in the 40s and lows around freezing - guess it really is winter.

In other exciting news, today our first payment on the new mortgage should be made automatically. I’m always a bit nervous about first-time thingies like this. Once a couple of payments have happened on schedule, I’ll be OK. That’s coupled with the letter we got a couple of weeks ago saying our mortgage had been sold (not a huge deal) but it would continue to be serviced by the original company. Theoretically, the automatic payments I set up should be fine. We shall see.

Today’s biggest plan is changing the bed linens and laundering the dirty set. I should also inventory the freezers and see if I need to get any groceries. I’m thinking I may do a little rearranging - putting veggies and fruits in one and meats and fish in the other. That way, it should be easier to keep track of what I have, right? Sounds like a plan.

Last night’s Chardonnay sent me to dreaming that I was going back to college. :open_mouth: I was assigned to a huge dorm, and I was carrying a big box with one of those rolled-up mattresses in it. But I couldn’t find my room and while I was looking, someone stole my mattress, so I woke up a bit upset. Not only do I have no desire to go back to school, I absolutely don’t want to live in a dorm… or an apartment, for that matter. I’ll stick with my house on 3 acres, thanks, with no shared walls or nearby annoying neighbors.

Leftover pizza for breakfast - great way to start the day. Happy Saturday!!

Morning, mumpers and happy Caturday! Today the weather app says "You know rain is partly made up of evaporated piss, right?! and promises me 2C/36F with a high of 2C/36F. It is snowing, and has been for the last couple of hours so I’m not sure if we’ll bother going out today. We had planned to go into town on a couple of errands (can’t do much, 'cos not much is open) but they’re not vital things so we might just not bother.

Dicey I’m glad you mum is getting some good information and has been able to speak to the parish nurse, sounds like a very useful person to have on her side.

nellie I don’t like fireworks much either, and round here they seem to go on forever. Someone was letting them off close to midnight last night too, fortunately they don’t bother the cats too much unless they’re really close and the bang is very loud.

nut one or two of our local supermarkets have a book bin on the carpark (along with the usual clothing and shoe recyclers) so I offloaded a bunch of books from there that I wanted rid of. Morrisons also has a bookshelf in their foyer where I’ve left a few things too.

We are not expecting any students back until 1st February, even though staff go back on Monday. Term starts on 11th Jan, with two weeks of online assessment followed by an enrichment week before teaching resumes in Feb. Apparently whoever’s wearing the Education Secretary hat today will be reviewing guidance in three weeks’ time and telling us what’s happening next. As if they have a clue…

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off again today. Time for laundry!

{{{{Die}}}} Hope they can figure out Dad’s issue.

Happy New Year Emily!

Morning all. Well, we all made to the second day of 2021 and no earth-shattering disasters yet (day is still young, though). Only getting to 56F today but only a 1-in-10 chance of rain, so there is that. Will try to be slightly more active than yesterday.

Emily, always good to see you when you check in. Be well.

FCM, saw your note on another page about FCD’s parents. I know a little about stubborn parents, hope you can finally prevail upon them.

Dicey, good news about the parish nurse, but a paralyzed intestine does not sound good. Hope the docs can fix him up. And goggled thundermug, it is a proper term for a chamberpot or the like. Never knew that, so I have a new bit of knowledge today (don’t know when I’ll ever use it, but still nice to know…)

Just checked my Electric and Water bills, both are due around the start of the month…and can’t get to my water billing, because the system is by AT&T and the Nashville bomb apparently screwed it up. We shall see.

All y’all take care. Need to hydrate and forage for sustenance now.

I was fatigued all day yesterday. I had my second shingles shot Thursday, and one of the possible side effects is ‘feeling tired’. Plus I stayed up to bid good riddance to 2020. My arm was so sore at the vaccination site that it kept waking me up every time I rolled over at night.

Last night I slept well, and today I seem to be operating within parameters.

Maybe about the time that pigs fly…

I’ve showered and dressed. The bed has been de-sheeted and the dirties have been flung down the stairs. The pellet stove is off and cooling down - I’ll de-ash it later. I think it’s time to don appropriate outdoor wear and clear the branches out of the front and back yards. That should be good for some fresh air and exercise.

Then I may attack the basement for a bit. Or not. We shall see.

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to clean out the hall closet after KP. Once that’s done, I’ll go get groceries, then a trip to the dog park before starting on the bedroom closet. A trip to GW for drop off will happen tomorrow (they’re accepting donations).

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Up. fueling with coffee and working. Yesterday’s dip fiesta did not occur for various reasons. It was snowing and my mom doesn’t like to drive in weather, which is fine. I could’ve gotten her but I received news yesterday afternoon that a family friend had died suddenly of a heart attack on New Year’s Eve, a few short minutes before midnight. A final parting salvo from a lost year determined to emphasize how quickly your family and friends can be taken.

Lunch time!

I loaded a bunch of stuff in the truck for a dump run. I brought some shelves from the shop to the basement. I cut up cardboard for recycling. I got most of the big branches off the lawn and into the woods, plus I cut back a couple of honeysuckle bushes that were getting out of control. The sun peeked out a few times, but mostly it’s been overcast.

After I ingest the leftover pizza, I’ll go downstairs and assemble the shelves and start setting up RoxyLand. And I should toss the sheets into the washer while there. So busy afternoon ahead. But pizza first.

Used some of the leftover cornbread to make Redneck Eggs Benedict(cornbread, poached eggs, sage and cayenne white sauce, country ham). Eggs didn’t hold together, but flavorwise it’s worth repeating. Laundry is done. I think I shall clean the fridge this afternoon.

I encountered it occasionally as a nurse, most often from a generation of patients older than me (started nursey work in 1964!! eek) and used in the sense of a chamber pot/bedpan. Seems like I scrubbed out a few million of them…but I always though the term was kinda cute. More fun than bedpan, that’s for sure.

On a med/surg floor that is fairly normal, with the holiday season throwing in a few staffing/scheduling twists. Residents are almost nameless, anonymous widgets that fill a slot and get switched in and out. Don’t be surprised when that ‘rotation’ is over and every resident that she has talked to moves to another unit and she has a whole new roster of residents to get to know and who have to get to know her and her husband. One of my kiddos is a resident in Michigan, his rotations change monthly, often pulling him over to a different hospital and changing the ‘attending’-think boss of the chain gang. So, don’t be surprised if the approach to treatment changes then also. Nurses are her friend/lifeline here~they are the constant. So glad there is a parish nurse in the picture for them, they are a wonderful embodiment of village.

Sounds like my day exactly, changing inside and dry to inside and warm since I’m north enough that wet will be coming down down as snow for 3 more months. I too have a stock of leftovers from our New Years Day ham dinner, looking forward to a ‘leftover hit parade’ for several days until the ham gets down to where I can throw the bone into a big pot of beans for soup, my favorite part. Takes a household of two people a while to eat a 7lb ham down to that point.

I should tackle the dirty dishes and holiday collection of trash and cardboard boxes in the kitchen. What is more likely is that I will hang around here and FB, tossing in some episodes of Outlander on Netflix, slothing on my nice comfy couch under a thick blanket. Occasionally I will get up for more coffee, berating myself about the mess in the kitchen while the coffee is brewing. I can feel Moooom’s dismay from here…
