"The Jena Six"

Yes, pretty much. The main purpose of this little exercise is to demonize white people.

You truly have no idea what you are talking about. There were white people participating in the protests, for logic’s sake.

You’re making assumptions on facts not in evidence, as will I here in just a moment; perhaps the restaurants are closed because they can’t man them effectively, small town like that one I’m guessing a lot of little mom and pop joints with one or two waitresses who couldn’t (or in your estimation wouldn’t, which is also possible) handle the kinds of crowds that arrived for this circus.

I’d close down too, frankly. People who follow a cause and come great distances to protest (in my experience) tend to leave the place they were in a shambles, because they aren’t THERE for the scenery, moreover, the larger the group, the lower the IQ, it only takes one seemingly innocuous act to turn a gathering of vocal protestors into a riotous mob of unruly citizens.

A little off topic but thought you might find it interesting
British soccer hooligans discovered that by folding a newspaper in a particular way it could be used as a weapon that caused great pain.
A reporter who volunteered to be hit by one said that the pain was so intense that he nearly passed out and actually fell to his knees
I can only assume they discovered it in a book about origami.
I have seen the film of this and it is no joke .

If I owned a retail business in town that was expected to be full of people I’d make sure it was open. It’s not rocket science.

If there’s going to a riot, open or closed is not likely to make much difference.

I’m sorry. I forgot this is the Pit. Kill them all. Let Og sort them out.

If there’s going to be a riot, I’d think that my not being there would make a big difference to me.

It’s all just fun and games. No reason for the black people to be upset.

Two arrested in noose incident near Jena, LA.

*As police were questioning the driver, he said he had an unloaded rifle in the back, which police found. They also found a set of brass knuckles in the cup holder on the dashboard, according to the police report.

The passenger told police he and his family are in the Ku Klux Klan, the police report said. He also said he had tied the nooses and that the brass knuckles belonged to him, the report said.*

Probably just a coincidence.

Yeah, the actions of a drunken 18-year-old and his 16-year-old girl friend are so highly significant.

Seriously, this is shaping up to be another campaign of white bashing similar to the Tawana Brawley hoax and the Duke University rape hysteria.

Yeah, taunting black people with nooses is all a hoax. Just a joke, people!

Tawana Brawley and the Duke stripper were just joking, too!

Adding to KRM’s comment about me or my family not being there should something happen, I’ll say this; even if there isn’t a “riot” the policy of never underestimating the power of stupid people in large groups is a good one that will avoid businesses being trashed, (even by the lazy and stupid of the group, if not by the angry protester) and most importantly, keep employees safe which for any business owner worth his or her salt ought be the first concern anyhow.

I don’t think he (or she) was implying that anything is humorous about it. I do see a bit of opportunism occurring here, though. They’ve got national attention, and over the next several weeks, they’re going to do whatever it takes to keep it.

Who does, the Klan or Sharpton?

Both. It’s a ridiculous mess with ridiculous idiots.

This kid is as transparent as saran wrap, ferchrissakes. He’s a wannabe bad-ass, trying to look COOOL, or so he thinks. He’s the same as the wannabe gang-banger on the train harassing a guy in a suit. If someone truly took that kid to task, I would bet my hat that he’d fold like a cheap card table. Hell, he had to get drunk to even pull this deal off. Frankly, aside from the obvious overtones and the DUI/minor consumption, this puke didn’t DO anything illegal, and was engaged in his right to free speech. Not that I’m defending WHAT he’s trying to say, but I AM defending his right to say it.

My opinion on the start of this all: a noose is not a prank*. The school handled this wrong in the first place, because A Noose Is Not A Prank. If the school had handled this correctly, by expelling the students involved in the noose intimidation incident, then things probably won’t have gotten this far.

So remember to teach your children that A Noose Is Not A Prank.

My opinion on the Jena 6: The legal system screwed the pooch in the beginning and brought this shit down upon the town. The original charges were inappropriate.

My opinion on the protests: It’s a good thing for people to bring this case to national attention because it highlights what continues to be wrong in so much of this country. Riots are bad no matter who causes them. If this protest gets out of hand then we can discuss the stupidity of the rioters.

My opinion on KKK boy: He’s a tool and a wannabe and probably not dangerous. Throw the book at him anyway.

*I suppose if used amongst very good friends it could be a prank, but let’s talk generalities rather than exceptions when discussing nooses, shall we?

Nonsense. The low-level ethnic cleansing of blacks by Hispanics in Los Angeles should be a cause of far greater concern than this trivial incident. But whites are much easier to intimidate than Hispanics, so black rabble rousers go after the easier, and far less dangerous, target.

Well, that’s just horrible. But Hispanic on Black racism doesn’t make what happened in Jena excusable or better. I never said that white on black racism was the only kind, just that it’s still prevalent and should recieve national attention so that people can’t pretend it has stopped. That doesn’t preclude the incident in your link from being in need of national attention as well.

ETA: Whites are easier to intimidate than people who are Hispanic? I think I’ll just leave that little ass nugget alone.

Whites are easier to intimidate than Hispanics? Have you done a scientific study on this? Do you have a cite? Or are you just talking out of your ass?

Should the events of Los Angeles cause everyone to ignore events in Jena, LA? I can’t see why they would.

Also, I’m not sure you understand this, Lonesome Polecat, but white people were putting nooses in a tree to intimidate black students into maintaining a segregationist situation. I’m sorry, but that is unacceptably fucked up. It’s a symbolic threat of murder and no joking matter. Lynchings aren’t such a distant memory that we can laugh about them or blow them off as a childish prank. The kids who did it knew exactly what it meant, and therefore should have been charged with a hate crime and faced the most severe discipline the school could mete out. The fact that they didn’t was a breach of justice of grave proportions. I don’t see how anyone can argue that point.

I agree with you about “what they were charged with”. But you might want to go back and read the whole thread and get the rest of the information yourself before you form this particular opinion. I came in here basically only knowing about the noose and the last beating, although I did hear from Michael Savage that there had been something else. Not that I put much stock in Michael Savage, but I wanted to see what he was on about. But what I’ve read here and from the cites posted tells me that the version you’re talking about isn’t any more correct than the one in your last paragraph.
