Thanks for your brilliant fact-free analysis from 1500 miles away. You go right ahead defending the rights of the Ku Klux Klan to drive around a group of black people with nooses prominently displayed. Nothing more than free speech to your white ass.
I agree that most likely this was an intentional form of intimidation. And if this is the case, then morally there deserves to be a harsh penalty. But I don’t see why we should legally have harsher penalties for certain crimes because of who their victims are.
In addition, what if it turned out hypothetically that a black person planted the nooses there as some form of performace art/protest/commentary? I’m sure there would be people posting here calling it no worse than a prank.
What if a white person planted the nooses to make it look like a black person planted the nooses to make it look like the white rednecks were rascists? Oh, wait. They are.
Last, first. Yes, it was a hate crime, and should have been dealt with accordingly.
As has been noted numerous times, two wrongs do not a right, make.
I wouldn’t say that whites are easier to intimidate, it’s just that reverse discrimination has become an accepted practice. Were someone to launch the National Association for the Advancement of White People, the United White College Fund, or any other pro-white foundation, there would be cries of racism left and right.
Jesse and Al, being the spotlight whores that they are, are right there to howl when a person of color suffers injustice, whether it is real or fabricated. As “Reverends”, one would think that their dedication to truth and Biblical principles would guide their words, yet I never see or hear them speaking out against any situation, save those which appeal to their demographic of support. Their absence once the truth is known speaks volumes about them.
As was previously noted in this thread, some people automatically see blacks as the victim, no matter what.
True justices require the blindfold be worn, such that the facts of a situation, and not the color of the involved parties, define the outcome. Let me know when that happens.
[hijack]I’d get into that mode of thinking for real whenever my psychology prof would do something weird – is he really just weird or is he doing an experiment on me? Looking back on it – maybe he was just using the class as an excuse to do whatever weird stuff he felt like doing and the class would write him off as a crazy psych prof or someone doing a psych experiment!
Well, I’m certainly not the only one who sees the problem. And I don’t need a “scientific study” to back up what I said. Anyone who doesn’t see that most whites are frightened of being tagged as racists is just plain stupid.
I don’t have a dog in the fight, but if six guys team up to murder a guy, and all he gets is a black eye, slight concussion and is able to attend a school function that night, then they’re pretty pathetic in the attempted murder department…
Yes. Severely. To paraphrase someone here recently on the Dope, “Sometimes, you need to stomp a mudhole in somebody.” I would add to that that this redneck, racist shitheel needs to have his mudhole subsequently walked dry.

You made some very good points there! Whites are always supposed to view themselves as autonomous individuals within the larger society. It is expected that blacks and other minority groups will have common interests against “whitey”, and have organizations specifically devoted to their particular ethnicity. God forbid that whites ever do anything like that, since we are the eternal oppressors, and the only group capable of racism – according to a lot of people, anyway!
Also, many liberals/leftists (not all, of course) will take any opportunity to bash whites over the head. They will go out of their way to explain away any bad behavior on the part of blacks, excuse any degree of black-on-white crime, black-on-white rape, etc. – the attitude is “Whites had it coming to them!”
Well, this is reminding me far too much of my days at Tennessee State University, as one of the few “blue-eyed devils” on campus! I actually composed a thread about it quite some time ago. Now I need to get my mind on something else… I think I will go read a book or something!
Okay, I think I understand your point. If somebody steps too far out of line, it’s all right to kick the shit of them. They’re just redneck, racist shitheels, right?
Are you really so completely blind to the race and class bigotry in the term “redneck racist shitheel”?
Also, as for the closing of the town businesses that day, its a moot point as one of the expressed goals of the marchers was to be in and out of town in a day and not contribute any money to the town’s economy- I assume, though, that exceptions would have been made for businesses touting themselves as black owned. This fact, if true, is bothersome- why “punish” the town for the acts of one guy, the DA, if the motives of some of the leaders of the protest wasn’t racist?
Of course it is, dumbass. Now I can see where you’re ignorance comes from, though. Gotta protect your own kind, no matter what. Stop snitchin’, and all that.
Dude, “racist redneck” is not an ethnic group. Some of us were raised by people who were ignorant, realized how repulsive it was, and have chosen not to perpetuate it. Through education and critical thinking, we’ve also learned the many disguises the mindset hides in… this thread offers several examples.
