The Jeopardy thread [was James Holzhauer][contains spoilers]

Works for me.

My question is why are they “reopening the search” when they made such a big deal about Bialik being named a host as well when they announced Richards? Seems like you’d just automatically go with her. Unless the only reason they announced her in the first place was because they were taking heat over Richards’ history of workplace sexual harassment and needed to put a woman in the press release.

If Richards recorded yesterday then that means there will be one week of his shows broadcast, at least for continuity’s sake. I wonder if there was some sort of problem or struggle while recording that made this abrupt timing necessary?

I think James may be thinking the same way I am.

“I was really looking forward to the season premiere where after an exhaustive 61-clue search for the next Jeopardy champion, the show looks past the three obvious candidates and declares Mike Richards the winner”

I think it’s possible that BIalik isn’t willing to take the everyday gig. She’s a working actor, still fairly young, with her own show, and I think Sony was hoping to install someone in this position who’d be committed for the next twenty years. Periodic primetime specials might well have been the most to which she could commit. Or not, but who knows?

What’s happening with that new sitcom anyway? I haven’t heard it mentioned for some time now. Has it gone the same way as Bless This Mess?

I also don’t understand why people are still rooting for Levar Burton. I like him as a person and actor, but thought he was a mediocre Jeopardy! host at best.

Call Me Kat was renewed for a second season in May.

Huh. News to me.

Dictionaries throwing shade is one of my favorite things on twitter:

Glad to hear it!

Wonder if Weird Al would be up for a remake?

I was very pleased to read this news this morning. Mr. Richards’ selection as host had all the credibility of WWE owner Vince McMahon winning the WWE’s Royal Rumble some years back.

It is undeniable, however, that Mr. Richards has innovated a new way to lose at the game and now occupies a unique position as a legendary Jeopardy! “chumpian.”

Totally agree with this. I REALLY disliked Burton during his stint, and thought Bialik was “meh.”

So if my math is right, having worked for just one day of taping, Richards lasted 0.09 Scaramuccis.

Maybe she’s unwilling to go through the same process as Richards. In many people’s opinions (mine included) she’s also inappropriate for the position. Not nearly so despicably, but still.

You can tell she’s serious by the way she wags her head.

I wonder whether there are any skeletons in Buzzy’s closet.

Gladsome tidings.

NPR has a useful run-down of the entire affair, including:

I can’t imagine that his continued tenure as Executive Producer will go smoothly. But perhaps Richards has friends in high places.

Anybody wanna bet he’s going to be “persuaded” to leave altogether?

The thing that really came through in the Ringer article is how desperate he’s always been to get himself in front of the camera. I can’t imagine that going back behind the scenes will have much appeal to him.
