The Karaoke Thread

For reports of your karaoke adventures.

It had been about three years since I’d last been able to do karaoke-- two songs on the Carnival Sunrise cruise to The Bahamas-- prior to May 4, 2022, when Mom and I went to a bar in Chesapeake specifically for this purpose.

For the past few weeks, we’d been rehearsing Simon & Garfunkel’s “The Boxer” as a duet, with me singing the melody and her doing the harmony.

“I’m Stone in Love with You” – The Stylistics

However, Mom didn’t want to sing until she had some booze in her, so I started off our night by singing this timeless song from my favorite R&B band. I sang it an octave lower, which unfortunately meant I couldn’t hear it very well.

“Snowblind” – Styx

About halfway through the night, I sang my favorite song from my favorite band, a rocking good time, “Snowblind”, about cocaine addiction (or possibly about a lady). Brought the house down.

“The Boxer” by Simon & Garfunkel (with Mom)

We closed it out with “The Boxer”, and got high praise for doing the melody and harmony.

The other karaoke people were a hoot, by the way. There was this pretty, middle-aged, heavy-set woman who “broke up” with the karaoke jockey by sitting him down in front of her and singing “My Give-a-Damn’s a Busted”, and afterwards, handed him divorce settlement papers in which she got half his stuff, including his truck. Everyone was laughing, and it took me about ten minutes to realize it was just a skit.

Must have gotten a bit awkward when you started singing about the whores on Seventh Avenue.
