I went from hopeful, to meh, to active hatred.
Yeah. I liked it until I realized the Emperor was naked. Reminds me a great deal of how I felt watching Snake Eyes - “This is great!..uh…ah…crap.”
Watched the premiere, and thought, “Meh.” Like Rubicon, it was going to be a turgidly paced ambiguous mess, with each episode revealing a half-assed tidbit after watching boring people stare meaningfully at each other for an hour.
Glad I passed on it.
ETA: Voted “Poor Show, Didn’t Even Finish It, Disliked It.”
More as a glorified bump, but also to interpret the first 25 votes, it looks like:
17 people (68%) had at best a “didn’t care for it” response
5 people (20%) had no worse than an “OK with it” response
3 people (12%) had no idea what The Killing is/was
0 people loved it
0 people had a “who cares?” response
Maybe those with positive feelings toward the show are unwilling to say so even in an anonymous poll, but I see this as evidence that the preponderance of Dopers reject this show.
Comments? Arguments?
More votes?
ETA: Vote #26 adds 1 to the “at least OK with it” group
Loved it, up until the last episode.
Now feel totally screwed.
Not an option in the poll.
I watched it for 4 or 5 episodes. When I first heard that it was one case over the course of a season, my first thought was someone was trying to redo The Wire. But pretty quickly it became obvious that it was more like an episode of a regular cop show, just stretched out to an entire season, so I bailed. I did keep tabs on it because I was curious if I guessed the killer. It turns out even that was a waste of time.
A valid opinion that I didn’t cover accurately enough. You’re right not to vote. Thanks for the feedback, though.
I was super gung-ho for this show, but then I moved during the Ahmed arc and didn’t finish the series. I kept away from spoilers, then started reading on here and TWOP - given the active hatred I’ve seen for the turn the show had taken I think I’ll pass on looking for a second viewing.
I agree. The last episode was extremely disappointing. I would have been angrier if that was the series finale
I still voted above average, though.
Well said. I had about the same reaction.
What's your opinion of "The Killing"?

Neglecting the 12 votes from “Who cares?” and "What’s “the Killing?” we’re left with 15 who are more positive than negative and 29 who are more negative than positive on this show. That’s right at a 2-to-1 breakdown.
May I invite the “negative” group to join in the discussion and listing at …

The Killing – new series on AMC
And if you have a different interpretation of what the poll numbers tell us, or if you want to add some other levels of Love vs. Hate, please do.
I like the show. I voted “reasonable” because, sure, it’s got some problems, but I look forward to the second season, where Detective Linden will once again put to good use her paranormal ability to solve crimes by gazing thoughtfully into the distance.
The season-ending episode didn’t bowl me over, but I’m just not finding it to be the cheat that a lot of people appear to view it as. I just can’t muster up much frustration about not finding out the killer’s identity after only 13 episodes; that’s just not that long. The part in the season-ending episode that I really thought worked was Linden’s frustration that, if only Rosie had happened to turn the other way to run, she’d have come across civilization and gotten out of there alive. A stupid metaphorical coin flip comes up the wrong way, and she dies.
I voted “reasonable”. My opinion has dropped a lot, but I’m still watching. I think Murder 1 was better.
The 2-to-1 Neg-to-Pos breakdown reported above is now down to 3-to-2 after 65 Voters have spoken.
Maybe AMC has some justification for going for another season on this turkey?
Maybe the louder of SDMB’s people who watched it aren’t the real audience for it.
All I can say to that is, “Y’all enjoy it next season. I’ll be watching the Weather Channel where the important mysteries are.”
I didn’t want to start a new thread for this observation so I’m tacking it on here instead: Now that Breaking Bad is back and we can see that AMC does have a sense of what a good show can be like, does it annoy you that they’re touting The Killing as another example of their high quality? It flies all over me!
So, is the season over?
For The Killing? Yes, but you’d think it was a hot property from the ads AMC is running for it. I admit to having had nothing to do with the zombie/vampire show they’re also promoting so I may be over-reacting to their lumping TK in with BB as an example of their “cutting edge” status as a network.
