Back on June 1, Las Vegas opened up with no mask, no social distancing, business as usual. Yippee! They counted on the non-vaccinated to respect their request to be honest, and mask up, or stay away.
Right.
Now, Nevada leads the states in the 7 day average Covid cases at 150 average/million/day
And Clark County is higher than the state at a 7 day average of 420/day, or 185 cases/million/day
This does not look good.
Has Las Vegas lost the plot? Are they going to be ground zero for spreading covid variants across the continent?
And who do you think is working at the casinos? The majority of people in Las Vegas at any given moment are from Las Vegas. They might be making things worse for all the rest of us, too, but that’ll also mean making it even more worse for themselves, and that’s where the statistics will be most obvious.
Nevada is coping with a convergence of factors. The state has a low vaccination rate with fewer than half of its residents receiving at least one dose. That’s coinciding with a return of Las Vegas’s famous nightlife: casinos and restaurants are packed to the point where it’s difficult to even get a reservation, with many locals also enjoying the fun. Masks are rarely worn.
No kidding. We will have to give it more time. I worry about all those folks who don’t care, and will travel there and bring it back home with them. The fed gov is getting shit from the Conservatives for keeping the US border closed. I applaud this decision.
