Good morning and happy first day of 2012! Our exciting evening last night consisted of The Tudors and The Big Bang Theory on Netflix and TBS respectively. About 11, we switched from the living room TV to the bedroom TV, and by 11:30, I handed the remote to my sweetie and rolled over. The next time I saw the clock, it was nearly 12:30, so apparently I’d fallen asleep. I did hear **FCD **turn off the TV, and that was it till Scruffy barked at 5-ish. Yep, a wild and exciting NYE at FairyChatEstates!
This morning, the cats are in crazy mode, running about, being pests. My sweetie is still sleeping. No idea what the day will hold. Two weeks from today, we go to Mom’s for the night and two weeks from tomorrow, we board the cruise ship. I need to do some serious wardrobe calculations - I hope we each have 2 weeks’ worth of unders…
No resolutions here - I learned years ago that they’re an exercise in futility. Face it - I’m perfect just the way I am!
We went out for drinks very early last night, and came home to a beautiful beef stew I made earlier. We were asleep well before midnight. I went out and watched the neighborhood explode a bit, then went to bed and watched the Twilight Zone until I fell asleep.
I’m looking forward to dinner today! I have a lovely boneless ribeye roast, and we’ll have twiced baked NOT and, since I abhor greens of any kind except spinach, we’ll have BROCCOLI! It’s green enough for me! And of course, black eyed peas. From a can. Deal with it, Swampy. And I’m gonna make a punkin pie, because **FCM **inspired me, and I have all the ingredients on hand.
Must have more caffeine. Ta!
LiLi - I’m glad Gnat is home! I wish less medical drama for you in 2012.
All purtified for deheathenization. I made an executive decision and went ahead and grilled the poke tenderloins. They’re wrapped in foil and settin’ on the kitchen counter coolin’ down a bit. Then they’ll go into da fridge and into the convection oven to warm up after deheathenization. I say they’ll still taste like just off’n the grill and it’s one less thing to worry about cookin’ last minute.
I also have an appetizer for folks to munch on whilst dindin finishes and mimosas are enjoyed. It’s that most southern of munchies, cream cheese and pepper jelly served on crackers. In this case garlic crackers. Fancy ones even cause I’m all couth.
We had a great time celebrating last night with our friends. There were a lot of laughs, a little dancing, and some 99. The hostess served a great dinner too!
We brought in the New Year together, and then headed to another friend’s house to sleep a little before heading home.
We came home, made some coffee, and now I’m just going to chill for a little bit.
I’m in part 2 of Gallivantation 2011-2012, swampy.
We did the traditional party at friends (there are about 12 of us who celebrate together) and managed to be up until 4:00 a.m. It’s the only occassion where I willingly stay up that late because I hardly ever see these friends and there’s always lots to talk about and fireworks outside around midnight and good food and music (most of the group is serious classical musicians) and…
Didn’t sleep a lot, but we’ll catch up tonight, I hope.
I’m here through the end of the day on Wednesday, so I’m sure I’ll check in at least once in the next MMP before ehading home again.
We went out and got in the hot tub around 11:45 and sat there and listened to the locals shoot off illegal fireworks. Then we went to bed and watched TV for a few minutes and I fell asleep and missed whatever frivolity might have occured later.
Boy, Dick Clark sure sounds terrible. I believe he’s had a least one stroke.
Or else the botox got to his vocal cords.
I’ve been informed that we are having asparagus risotto with our dindin tonight. (The main course is up to me.) Will that get me money, Swampy?
I hope everybody’s new year is better than last year.
My dad and I have been working on cleaning up the house. Today I’ve been, very slowly, moving my (silverware) workspace to a new location. I’m quite excited about it! I’m going to have to work on getting some decent lighting in the room, but it will be a nice space with windows where I can work, ahem, alone and outside of the regular flow of household traffic.
Ye old harpoon is still sitting next to me at present, but won’t be for long as the wingback that it’s sitting in will be moving into my new workroom.
I took a partial shift on the bambilance yesterday, and had one call. It was the grossest call I’ve had on this squad so far, but not even close for all the time I’ve been doing this.
The call was for a young man with a laceration, and bleeding profusely. OK, could be routine, or not. We soon found out it was not.
He was in the basement of the house, sitting on the toilet, and there was quite the trail of blood on the floor. Our patient was a rather brittle Type 1 diabetic, and had half of a foot. The missing toes and metatarsals were removed about 2 years previously because of neuropathy and gangrene, which are common diabetes complications. Yesterday, his foot was severely infected, and the skin broke open, causing the bleeding.
The rough part of the call was getting him upstairs. The basement steps were a couple of degrees short of being considered a ladder, and quite narrow. We used a Reeves stretcher, which is kind of like a big body sling with lengthwise bed slats. Even so, it was a tight fit going up and around the corner to go outside.
The kid was kind of out of it, and no wonder, his blood sugar was somewhere in the stratosphere. I bandaged his foot, and we transported. I wish him well, and vowed to lose the weight I’ve gained back and be extra diligent with my own meds.
I did laundry(scored 2 triple washers), and it was warm enough today that I had the windows open, and was sitting on my back porch in a Hawaiian Shirt, drinking a beer. The only downer for the day is that my “just friend” had to take one of her daughters to the ER for kidney stones. I have chili simmering on the stove(red=blood money? dunno).
Daughter just hit NC, but she’s tired - she’s about 5 hours out - will she make it back tonight? We told her we’d pay for the hotel if she stops.
We went to Bert’s for supper - quick and not horrible, so there’s that. Yesterday’s mail brought FCD’s short term disability check and I tried to use our credit union’s scan-to-deposit service, but for some reason, it didn’t like the scan of the check, so I just stuck it in an envelope to mail it to FL. It should be there by the end of the week.
It’s been a TV-and-knitting day, and I’m about to go resume the position. Nice lazy way to start the new year. So until morning, MWAH!!
I forgot to mention that tomorrow’s bday dindin has been delayed for a day. MOG invitated us to the good Eyetalian place tomorrow night as a celebration of OYKW’s bday and the New Year. Bellinis shall be consumed!
I’m watchin’ some of the Twilight Zone marathon again. Tomorrow is a holiday, so no irk but I foresee and earlyish night cause I’s tahrd.
Hilarity! I have a washing machine out on my porch, covered in a, well, cover, because I’m not a hillbilly.
There’s a big strong magnet holding it up on one side which the cats avoid. Until today; when Tansy managed to get her collar hooked into it. I don’t know how long I was asleep, but she managed to stick herself to half the stuff in the house. The fridge was her final sticking place and she tried to out maneuver me while stuck to a giant box!
She acted like none of it happened. Such a cat.
Ohhh! Bobbio! A police car with lights, then a fire engine, with ambulance, just went by. Now more police cars! Nobody official ever goes down this road. Something’s up and it will never be on the news. This should be an easy call, just little stuff. No missing body parts except in my Dexter book, my goodness. Take care of yourself Mr. Hero.
