Don’t bother with Thor: The Dark World unless you’re a big fan of Tom Hiddleston. The interaction between Thor and Loki was great, but the rest of the film was meh.
I hope that Spider-Man and Ant Man aren’t necessary, because even though I’m interested in them, I just never got around to them.
I have been really impressed with Marvel films over the last few years. I was getting rather bored of superhero films especially after the fairly average Avengers 2, but Marvel has knocked it out of the park since then and I have enjoyed Dr Strange, Thor:Ragnarok and Black Panther. And based on the trailers, Infinity Wars looks like a lot of fun, and also a big step forward for the grand narrative.
I do wonder how well the Russos will be able to handle the multiple plotlines and characters. IMO Whedon did a great job with the first Avengers film, not so great with the sequel and obviously Infinity War takes it to yet another level. Also what has impressed me a lot in recent Marvel films is the visual world creation with some truly stunning 3D environments like the mirror dimension, Asgard and Wakanda. I don’t know whether Infinity War will provide the opportunity to create something like that.
Still, bottom line: I am eagerly anticipating this.
Yeah,* Civil War *is basically Avengers 2.5. It features the entire team, with the exception of Thor and Hulk (who were off doing their thing in Ragnarok)
Y’all are simply too easy on your comics movies.
Not shocked; sci fi lovers tend to be too easy on sci fi movies/series, too.
But even for people like me who demand more, these Avengers movies are going to be very good, from the looks of it.
As for the villains, too many of the MCU villains have been complete yuck. Sometimes, that can be saved with a decent story line.
Not that this was true of any genuine version of Spider-Man and Aunt May, but it’s pretty common for someone to call his great-aunt (i.e., grandparent’s sister) simply “Aunt” whatever.
“Aunt” May doesn’t have to be the sibling of his mother/father. While that’s the origin story in the comics, she could be his “great-aunt” and still be called “Aunt May.” But, even if we accept that she was indeed his mother’s sister, why would she have to be “80” in order to look old? Amazingly, some people look quite “old” at 50. And if she was enough older than her sister, and Peter was born late in his mother’s life, why wouldn’t his Aunt May be an older woman?
Face it: they just did it that way for two reasons: 1. The lulz, and 2. To have a hot looking woman for Tony Stark to drool over.
I would also throw in the first Guardians movie so that you can pay attention more to the characters. I have a feeling they’re going to be prominent in the movie with Gamora and her sister’s (who’s name escapes me right now) prior knowledge of Thanos. Also I would assume Quill has a large role since he, Iron Man and Cap are the main planners of the bunch.
If you ever play a video game shooter like Call of Duty, Battlefield, etc one of the amusing things is that you can be shot multiple times and hide behind a wall to recover but, if someone walks up on you and jabs you with a knife, dagger, axe, etc it’s almost always a one-hit instant kill.
So, OBVIOUSLY, pointy things make better weapons than firearms.
I’m happy with Tomei for this Spider-Man. It’s a slightly fresher take and I don’t need Aunt May to be doddering around with a cup of tea dispensing gentle wisdom in every version.
