The last Infinity War Trailer

Not a great plan

They’re among the latest movies. It’s an evolution. It took them a while to get the whole villain thing down.

Color me crazy, but I thought Jeff Bridges & Ben Kingsley were great villains as well.

Oh, we’re using our made-up names.

Totally unjustified prediction: Starlord ends up saving the day. Thanos steals the Infinity Stone that the Guardians “returned” to the government at the end of their first movie, and it’s not until he has all the rest of them that he discovers that it’s a counterfeit, and that Starlord still has the real one.

Oh, and villains: Loki is obviously the best, but I don’t think they’ve done too badly with the others (aside from Nihilist Emo Svartalf Dude in Thor II). Ironmonger was a Military-Industrial Complex capitalist and Red Skull was a Nazi: Those are both perfectly good, realistic real-world villains. Ronin the Accuser was something of a cookie-cutter villain, but that’s what they needed, because they were already introducing five-and-a-half completely new heroes that nobody had ever heard of in that movie, and they didn’t have time for proper characterization for a villain. Ultron had the whole monster-of-their-own-making vibe going for him. Whiplash, OK, he was cheesy, but very well-played. Bucky and Scarlett Witch have both ended up as heroes. Who else do we have?

Vulture? I liked Vulture.

This looks awesome.

The Extremis guy from Iron Man III was pretty forgettable. But bonus points for the Mandarin, who was hilarious, if not actually villainous.

Cory Booker in Ant-Man was a rehash of Ironmonger.

Dormamu’s Giant Face was a pretty underwhelming villain in Dr. Strange. Kaellicus was so-so, but like Whiplash, the casting made up for a lot.

On TV, Elektra and the Hand turned out to be a dud in The Defenders.

But I agree, the problem Marvel has isn’t that their villains aren’t good enough, the problem is that they keep killing them off.

The Extremis guy was at least very good at making you want to punch him in the face. That’s got to count for something.

Yup. I was never a Cap fan in comics but MCU? Thats my boy dawg.

Probably just bandwagoning at this point, but I agree that Obadiah Stane, Hela, Red Skull, and Killmonger were all pretty good (though no one’s on Loki’s level), and that Mandarin was fun, in a totally different way.

I’d also add Klaue, Crossbones, and Starlord’s dad.

Who was Crossbones?

All that was planted. I’m reasonably sure Wakandans, not being some urbanite gone kill-'em-all merc, have mastered the strange and powerful technology called “seeds”.

The former SHIELD agent that was stealing a bio-weapon at the beginning of CA: Civil War. He died in the explosion that killed the Wakandans.

Yes, Vulture was excellent as well. The whole villain thing is way overplayed and mostly a function of earlier movies.

Hydra Agent posing as a Shield Agent.

I am convinced that Steve and/or Tony die at the end of this thing.

I also suppose that Thor will be a prisoner of Thanos which may be what drives the plot. A rescue story.

Which of the remaining movies do I have to see before this one comes out? I’ve sort of watched, in that they were on tv in the background while I was doing something else. Iron Man I and II, Thor I and II. I have really watched Guardians I and II, and just watched Thor Ragnarok* last night. I also watched Doctor Strange. What else do I absolutely need to see? Dark World? The Avengers movies? Captain America? I don’t have much interest in Spiderman or Ant Man – are they necessary?
Thank you for your advice.

*I am so happy that Led Zep’s viking song wasn’t used in the earlier movies, because it was so perfect here. I replayed that part several times. And, though this is a comparison across universes, but did Surtur remind anyone of the Balrog, and did the breaking of the bridge remind anyone of the bridge at Khazad-Dum? No other resemblances, of course, but it struck me.

I would at least watch the two Avengers movies and Civil War but you should watch the two other Captain America movies as well just because they are really good.

Thank you!
