The Last Man on Earth - season 2

Well it’s a shame worm-Phil is stuck with Pat now. I wonder how long it’ll take Mike to meet up with the gang in Malibu (hopefully he turns out to be immune).

Didn’t care for the latest episode much.

I was mildly amused to discover that (dead) Phil did have a middle name, after all.

Not only that, it was even more embarrassing than Tandy. It’s fun watching Melissa lose her sanity over Todd rejecting her. I’m guessing pre-Virus she didn’t get dumped a lot (& certainly not by men like Todd). Hell she never would’ve given Todd the time of day if he wasn’t one of the last men on Earth.

Can’t wait for Melissa to meet Mike.

I didn’t like Mike’s hallucination young Phil being like current Phil. I always liked the idea that Phil pre-virus was a decent, likable guy and that being alone for so long made him a crazy jerk. Maybe he just regressed to how he was as a kid. I hope Mike and Phil being together will make for a new and better dynamic for the show.

Also, somehow my DVR didn’t record the episode where other Phil died. Did anything else important happen in that one?

It was the fall finale, back in December:

  • Mike leaves the space station, last we see is him burning up on re-entry.
  • Melissa proposes to Todd, but he says no.
  • Phil has appendicitis.
  • Gail operates on Phil, to no avail. Phil dies on the table.

Do we know for certain Mike’s straight?

Was there no episode this week?

Well, Mike didn’t seem terribly comfortable with Pat’s apparent interest in him… so I’m going with straight. But I guess you never know.

No, Fox aired that weird Passion play musical.

The ending of this episode was just classic. We’ve had years of slow burn leading to the reunion between Tandy and his brother (Mike?). They jog slowly across the beach towards each other, harms held out, joyous music swelling, and…

NUT PUNCH!
I also loved everything about the Masturbatorium. And I like that Tandy is growing enough as a person that he did come clean about his sterility before too long.
I’m not particularly invested in poor Todd’s sexual travails, but the show as a whole continues to be unique and entertaining.

I loved Carol’s attempt to provide Phil with homemade erotica (so was the last POTUS actually a lesbian, or was that just Carol’s imagination ;)). It’s easy to forget the show is Twenty Minutes into the Future. The bit with the home [del]pregnancy[/del] male fertility tests was pretty funny to. And the Miller brothers are finally reunited.

Just when Old Phil/Tandy was starting to seem a bit more sympathetic, his brother shows up, and Tandy’s jerkiness comes back in full force. I do hope that Mike stays on with the group, and I understand wanting to explore the sibling rivalry angle, but I do hope the writers tone it down just a bit.

Wow, yea… totally not feeling the Miller Brothers reunion. After all that time teasing it you’d think they could have done better with that.

At least Mike was able to get rid of half of that horrible beard of Phil’s. I wonder how long it’ll be before some brings up the idea of Carol using Mike* to have a Miller baby?

*Granted after 3 years in space his sperm count might be even lower than Phil’s, but the show skipped over all the medical problems Mike would have after that long in space.

I believe the show is set in the mid 2020s. As all the expiration dates on the male fertility tests were 2020 or 2021. Which leads be to believe it’s at least 2023 or 2024.

I’m OK with the reunion. Anyone else would have greeted their brother warmly and marveled over their luck that almost everyone else in the world died, but that they survived and Mike was able to come down from the space station, make his way to land (no guarantee that he wouldn’t instead have crash-landed in the middle of the ocean), and then made his way first to Tuscon and then to Malibu.

Instead Phil and Mike immediately bring up old grudges and jealousies.

Remember that the characters on the show seem unconcerned with the practical matters of long-term survival (like what’s going to happen when the canned food eventually all spoils?) or their lack of critical skills (like the lack of medical skills that might have kept the other Phil Miller alive).

So for the Miller brothers to revert to childhood disputes seems entirely within character for the show.

What is it about Phil that makes him so annoying? No matter what he does he’s annoying. Is it that he always seems to try too damn hard?

I really liked that Mike is both charming and a complete douchebag at times. It allows you to sympathize with Phil a bit more.

I went the other way. I love that Mike totally owns Tandy, and reveled in all of Tandy’s delicious misery. His tears taste like mana from heaven.

Agreed. I was expecting both of them to wind up in the stockade. Also how the hell do both Carol & Phil sleep through Mike shaving half of Phil (& fondling his balls in the process)? :dubious: Did he drug both of them, or what?
