Trying to keep from spoiling anything for people who are unfamiliar with the events of the second game.
HBO has officially announced the antagonist for season 2 of the series. It seems that Kaitlyn Devers, who was recently in the acclaimed miniseries Dopesick will step into the role of Abby, who was a polarizing figure in the game because
Summary
she harbors a serious grudge against Joel because, when he was rescuing Ellie in the season 1 finale, shot and killed her father. As such, she hints down and kills Joel, leading Ellie to go looking for her for her own revenge.
Devers is a very good actress. Not just on Dopesick, but in just about everything she’s done. She may have to bulk up a bit, but she certainly has the ability to pull off the role.
Interestingly enough, she was considered for the role of Ellie, which went to Bella Ramsey.
I don’t think they’ve decided that yet. There are rumors that the second game will encompass two seasons, but I don’t know what they plan to do. I know that Neil Druckman said before the writers’ strike that they had written the first episode, but to my knowledge, that’s as far as they’ve gone.
I like Devers (Last Man Standing, Justified) and think she’d be great in the role, but I like Ramsey as well and wish she’d continue. She’s got more of the Elliot Page vibe the creators were going for in the game.
Bumping this thread because the first two episodes of season 2 have dropped.
Dever is absolutely nailing the intensity of Abby. She’s a wonderful actress, and I didn’t really have many reservations about her (though I did mention when I created this thread that she should have bulked up just a little - though the developers made Abby jacked in the game because she was supposed to be a melee character, and a counterpoint to Ellie as more of a ranged fighter).
The second episode features THE EVENT. No spoilers, but it’s the catalyst for the entire second game.
I wasn’t sure they’d do that so soon, but I really liked the way it was presented to the viewers.
I absolutely hated Abby and I hated the fact that I had to play as her and keep her alive. It made the second game a lot less enjoyable. It felt like playing as Joffrey.
Once you got to the point in the game where you learn Abby’s motivation, I had absolutely no problem playing as her. So far as I’m concerned, she was totally justified in her actions.
Agree. By the end of the game, I was far more sympathetic to Abby. Not just because I understood her initial motivation, but because she’s the character that grows past her rage.
Yeah, I’ve seen a lot of people say that. And I get that. I really do. Not saying you’re one of these people, but so many people hated Abby that Kaitlyn Dever required extra security while filming.
