In this thread I was the last to post and it’s showing the poster before me on the main GD page.
Just curious as to why that happened.
Well I guess it doesn’t matter now 'cuz someone else posted after me. Sorry about that.
The system lags behind sometimes, especially in times of great busyness, which seems to be all the friggin’ time these days.
Hopefully it will all catch up to itself sooner or later. If not, then your post was sacrificed to the gods.

Well today it seemed to lag almost 3 hours considering the post above me was at 9:28 and mine was at 11:40 and when I posted this thread it was 2:46 and it still wasn’t showing up.
At least my post did not get sacrificed to any God’s I don’t know about 
burp

The same thing happened to me; a post I made just after 10pm yesterday was still not on the GQ thread list at 9am today. It was in the thread itself when I opened it, but was not on the thread list as the last post.
Well, it looks like dantheman’s been eating with the hamsters again so maybe that’s what’s going on.

Look what I’ve gone through. http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?postid=2441861#post2441861 At least we now know that trying to manually give it a bump isn’t likely to work until hours later. It doesn’t look like the lag of overworked hamsters (or it’s a freaking big one). Together with vanilla’s frozen post count I think there has been an extended period of some part of the database operations genuinely getting lost.
How big would you imagine the impact on the performance to be, if we tried modifying the values mentioned in the FAQ? Doesn’t make much sense being able to post faster, when you have to fear nobody will notice that you did so.
I bet it’s Tuba, dipping them in chocolate.
