Oh Tuba Dear--What Gives

I posted to the Master list at about 1:20.
After a few minutes it gave me a “server may be down” message. Sooo I posted again. Ok I know I wasn’t supposed to but I wanted to see if I got the same message. I didn’t. The window just kept sweeping. At 1:27 the Master list poped up saying I posted to it. But At 1:47 my message had not showed up yet.
Is there any kind of record as to the amount of time it takes to post?

Nope, some posts have taken hours to show up.

That’s an uncommon occurence, though; usually it’s pretty fast.

However it’s probably NOT surprising it happened in such a big thread; in fact, we probably need to close that thread (wonderful as it is) because it’s simply too big and the system is choking on it.

The Straight Dope

I dunno, Just, but the other day, during the 5:00 p.m. traffic jam, I posted something, and got the flood control screen (am I correct in assuming that that is the one that says in a bright, chirpy voice “Sorry, our board is not accessible, come back again some other time, or you can e-mail our Webmaster”?), anyway, so I trusted the CGI, so DID NOT repost, and came back an hour later and there was my post, but with a date stamp on it an hour later than when I had actually posted it. So it took it an hour to move through the pipeline, but move it did.

So go figure. Sometimes the hamster just has to lie down and take a little nap, but while he’s sleeping he somehow remembers all the instructions that we shout at him, and when he gets up from his nap, he implements them.

Notthemama, the flood control is a very clear message that says that “you have activated the flood control, repost at a later time”. I don’t think those posts go thru no matter what the condition of the board is at the time, unless you reepost them. The message you got (the board is not accessible at this time) is not the flood control message and when you get that one, it is best to wait till the board is working right to see if it went through.

The other day among other things the clock got screwed up by an hour, too. So the time of the post being an hour later may have just been the clock thing.

But as to the OP, I’ve not had much trouble with my post showing up at least reasonably quickly. (“reasonably quickly”, is that right?)
