The latest in abortion insanity

Bullshit. Otherwise, you wouldn’t use such tortured phrases “a male GOP.”

Well, that’s a pity.

If you’re telling the truth, there’s no fear of violating “liability laws.”

So what gives?

Oh, well, yeah, that’s different. Ol’ Mouthy, he liked his caviar salty.

I also notice this thread has gone the way of many, derailed by a pointless Bricker-esque digression, leaving the real point behind. He does this on purpose. I think it gives him some kind of personal gratification.

I can just see him in Philadelphia in 1787. “Wait a minute. Ben Franklin just said he had spoken with the King of France. Did he really? Or was it just a minister? We don’t have any witnesses; Franklin could just be making up anything he wants.”

As an ex-GOP, ex-LDS and ex-Utahn, I’m as anti-GOP, anti-Mormon as it gets, and that’s bullshit.

What "liability laws could you possibly be afraid of?

There’s so much wrong with the law, along with other outrageous measures which the Mormon, GOP dominated has forced upon the populous that we could pit them forever.

Among other steps which they have done is to require abortion providers to list their private residence information because it’s so important. Interestingly enough, there is no similar requirement for any other medical professionals. Consequently, the number of abortion providers has dropped considerably, since who wants to be the target of the next right wing fanatic.

And the name of the sponsor is in the article linked in the OP.

Why, so it is.

So, spamforbrains, you met with Senator Bramble, and he was a rude dick to you?

Sorry, I haven’t spent any time in the Pit, and truth be told I’d forgotten about this post because it’s not in my normal ‘patrol area,’ and other issues crowded it out of my mind. The only reason I’m here now is that this was moved from Great Debates. I’ve never been here before, actually; the description on the main menu was enough to scare me off.

Anyway, I wonder if Sen. Bramble fears for his immortal soul because he believes he’s allowing certain fetuses to feel pain. He also clearly doesn’t seem to be too worried about abusing live people like sfb who have the audacity to disagree with him and (horrors!) tell him so. (Yes, I believe you, sfb. :)) Then again, I guess he can just recant at the end and he’ll be safely propelled to heaven. Really makes you wonder what heaven is like if it’s infested with religious fundamentalists.

And just as a disclaimer, for those who don’t know me, I’m as atheistic as they come.

Can’t they just BAN abortions after the 20th week? I mean why bother with this stupid law?

it’s unconstitutional to do so. And rightly so. There are very few abortions that occur after the 20th week, and many of them are for medical reasons-the fetus is found to have a serious abnormality and is not viable or other unpleasant facts of nature are occurring. Another reason why an abortion may occur late is the weird laws restricting access to abortions. If the only place you can get an abortion is 500 miles away, you’re broke, don’t own a car, have 3 kids and two jobs, it might some time to figure out how to get one.

Not that it matters. In my admittedly biased view, I think any woman who doesn’t want something growing inside of her should be allowed to have it removed, immediately, no questions asked. Most women feel the same way. Even women who thought they were “pro-life” tend to suddenly change their minds when faced with the actual situation. Women will do anything to get rid of it, up to and including killing themselves.

There are other fun laws in this and other states that simply act to punish women trying to get abortions-waiting periods. Studies have shown that waiting periods do nothing but make women suffer. And the oh-so-fun forcible transvaginal ultrasound. They ram a huge ultrasound probe into your vagina and show you a blurry picture of something for no reason I can think of. Medically unnecessary.
Thanks for finding out the politicians’ name. I honestly cannot remember it. I’m bad with names. Sometimes I forget my own name. But really, why do you care? the problem is the law, not some weirdo incident in my life. I’ve had other politicians act extremely unprofessionally in my short stint as an activist. I had a very strange email exchange with one elected official that ended in a sexual proposition. I put him on my email SPAM list. And no, I can’t remember his name either but my computer does. I’m not going to mention it on a message board. That just seems uncool since I’m not going to do anything about it.

You haven’t explained what “liability laws” you were afraid of.

And you haven’t explained why you are focusing in on this small side issue over and over again instead of talking about the main issue…but I think we can guess why, can’t we?

I have an extremely limited grasp of the legal system, but going around accusing people by name of doing something nasty sounds illegal to me. So I don’t do it.

It goes to credibility. The whole story sounds made up, or at a bare minimum, highly exaggerated.

She contacted a “male GOP” and “leader of our country” who said mean things to her, but she won’t name him because of imaginary “liability laws”.

Later, the story changed that she’s just bad with names.

Also, while she claims to have an “extremely limited grasp of the legal system”, she boldly declares which laws are unconstitutional.

Sure.

It’s D’anconia. That’s what he does.

Might one suggest that someone who is not versed in the legal system may be thinking of libel laws, which may make one civilly liable for statements made on a written medium (such as a web-page) about another individual?

Truth is an affirmative defense against libel.

Naming the state senator who sponsored a law is not libelous, under any definition.

Was the poster lying about her accusations, and that’s why she wouldn’t name him?

Is this poster trying to change the subject by JAQing off?

What do you have to say about Utah’s new abortion law?

I say that people shouldn’t make up stories to promote their rather obvious agenda, that’s what.

It wasn’t the poster that drew you to this thread, was it? So why not tell us your opinion of Utah’s new abortion law? I think it is an unnecessary and dangerous hindrance.
