The latest news from the World's Worst Fertility Clinic

So, last month I wrote about my experiences with the World’s Worst Fertility Clinic in this massively-hijacked thread. To review: they double-billed us for some things, charged us for procedures that were never done, and have basically been jerks. Primarily, this is the fault of the front office manager, who is the main doctor’s husband. Well, now I have a new story.

We have a friend who has been going to the same clinic; she’s been trying to get pregnant even longer than we have. She has undergone multiple IUIs and other treatments, and has gone through multiple miscarriages. I don’t know how she does it. Well, she did IUI again, and it was successful. She went to the doctor’s office to have blood drawn for a progesterone level check.

And here’s the fun part: later that day, the office calls her. They tell her that they will not give her the results of the test, because she still owes the office money.

This did not sit at all well with her father-in-law, who is an attorney. The FIL called the office with holy fire blazing in his heart and let them know that, if her progesterone level was low and they refused to tell her that and it cost her the pregnancy, it amounted to malpractice, and he would sue them blind.

Surprise, surprise, they called our friend two minutes later with the results. Turns out, her progesterone level is low. Damned if she’s going there for any help, though; now that she’s pregnant, she can find her own OB/GYN and get the meds she needs.

This shithole of a fertility clinic never ceases to amaze me. Did they just buy a fucking boat they need to keep up payments on or something? Or, as I prefer to picture them, are they merely greedy little goblins who can’t sleep at night unless it’s on a large glittery pile of filthy lucre squeezed from the pockets of the desperate?

I want to shout to the world just how awful this place is. They should not be allowed to practice medicine if they can’t run their office like decent human beings.

That sounds like a story a state medical board would be interested in hearing about. I think what they did potentially interfered with her receiving appropriate medical care for a pregnant woman with low progesterone.

Not to mention, the quick response after the lawyer called leads one to believe they knew exactly what they were doing. Skirting the law for all it’s worth.

The moral being always have an attack-lawyer handy. :stuck_out_tongue:

Can you borrow her attack lawyer?

No shit - get this guy’s number!

Max Torque, she should report them yesterday to the state medical board and run, not walk to another OB/GYN who will properly care for her. :frowning: I’ve got all fingers crossed that her pregnancy keeps. Give her positive wishes.

What silver1 and Merineth said. I was thinking about it while watering the garden this morning - you all need to seriously file complaints against the doctor and staff with the medical board, licensing board; this is really massively fucking with people’s lives.

Good luck with the adoption process, guys.

Fucking hell, that place is awful. What’s the latest on your problems with them? Have they refunded your money? Good luck, and here’s hoping this thread manages to stay in line.

You missed a golden opportunity here to call them jerk-offs.

Damn, how could I have missed “jerk-offs”…

I wrote a letter in January demanding the refund of our money within ten working days. So far, nothing. So, my next step will likely be getting one of the attorneys in the town where I work (there are only four) to write a letter. I think recent events have proven that they blink when threatened with legal action, so that’ll probably bring about the quickest resolution.

And who’da thunk it, success.

The very day I posted the last message, I arrive home to find a notice in the mailbox about a certified letter that was being held at the post office from the fertility clinic. Mrs. Torque picked it up yesterday, and it was a check for $834, the cost of the two office visits we paid in advance for but never used and the few bucks extra that we were “in the black”. It seems they finally saw the light. It may not be everything we’re entitled to, but I’m calling it square and turning my back on that place for good.

My first thought, upon hearing of the check, was whether we should use it to help out that other friend of ours who keeps getting screwed by this place. After the events I described in the OP, the office threated to send her account to collections if not paid in full within two days, and I didn’t think she needed that kind of stress. Her dad, though, is helping them out, so we’ll probably apply it toward the home study we need to have done before we can adopt.

So, looks like I’m finally done with this place. No new threads about the WWFC, Flying Spaghetti Monster willing.

It sounds like the clinic will blink when confronted about their shady practices, so keep the money. Your friend will most likely get hers back too. Good luck on adopting, and I’m so glad you can close the book on this!

I’m sure a local newspaper or TV station would love to help you shout to the world.

My thoughts exactly.

And I love having a couple of attack lawyers handy. It helps most disputes settle themselves!

My husband will often loan himself out as a first-letter attack lawyer for our friends. You would be shocked (or maybe you wouldn’t) at how quickly most people/business/crooks will cave when they see letterhead…

And I want to say that I have watched these threads closely, as my SIL is having several fertilized eggs implanted on Monday.
