The Lego space race, Canuck-style!

Two Toronto students sent a Lego man 24 km into the upper atmosphere for $400. and the sheer fun of it. Article here. The video footage is pretty interesting, too.

I love it that they did this for no other reason than they thought it would be cool. I also am quite impressed that they checked whether it would be dangerous or illegal, and that they waited until conditions were right so that they wouldn’t violate US airspace.

Yes! I read that. Pretty cool.

Pretty amazing! But look at it from the poor Lego man’s point of view. What a terrifying experience.

The only thing I would have suggested would have been to pick a fancier lego character rather than the everyman Lego. Something like [Intergalactic girl](http://minifigures.lego.com/en-us/Bios/Intergalactic%20Girl.aspx#Intergalactic Girl) or [Roman soldier](http://minifigures.lego.com/en-us/Bios/Intergalactic%20Girl.aspx#Roman Soldier).

Yeah where are their ethics? Everybody knows you have to send up a Lego dog, and Lego chimp first to check survivability.

Hell, why not go all out.
