The Major League Baseball Playoff and Predictions Thread

Arizona vs. Colorado State. :stuck_out_tongue:

Fine, if he’s safe, I can throw his ass out.

Rockies could easily have lost there.

Yay, Rockies!

3-2 (11) and
2-0 and
3 am - good night

What, all you Chowder heads went to bed?

Party time in Cleveland!

That was a pretty amazing top of the 11th; the most runs ever scored in a single postseason half-inning (i love meaningless stats!).

Cleveland have to be pretty happy going home with the series tied, but they must also be a little concerned about the performances they’ve got from their two ace pitchers. Still, with the exception of Perez, the Cleveland bullpen was pretty great.

Frack frack frack!

I listened to the game all night at work, just getting home now. I can’t understand how anyone who doesn’t work the third shift could stay with that game.

Oh well, at least it was appropriate that it was Nixon to start off the scoring. No specific reason, just the fact that he was such a hometown favorite when he was in Boston. I couldn’t hear on the radio, but he was probably cheered by the Boston crowd when he came up to bat. Well, the cheering was worth it, he’s one of the reasons all you guys got to got home last night.

A touchdown in the 11th. Go Gagne!!!

Come on Cleveland, keep winning.

What I like about it (and there isn’t much to like) is that it means they can win without CC and Fausto being at the top of their games. That’s good.

I’d really prefer they were at the top of their games, though. CC will obviously have another shot since this will go at least to a game 5.

We also got through most of the season without Hafner being at the top of HIS game.

Truly this is a whole-team effort. There is no doubt about it!

They might have said that on the broadcast but it’s not true. The A’s scored ten runs in their half of the seventh inning in the 1929 World Series.

While losing 8-0, if I recall correctly.

I think they clarified later and it was the most runs ever in postseason extra innings by a visiting team. Talk about meaningless stats!

Well, there goes my respect for the statistical reliability of Joe Buck and Tim McCarver.

Must have missed that. Baseball commentary seems to live on meaningless stats. “He’s hitting .429 against lefties with runners in scoring positions during Sunday night home games since the All-Star Break, when the national anthem is sung by a four-member a capella troupe.”

Yoinks. I didn’t know it was quite that bad.

Is that yearly salaries or total contracts? Someone with access to Baseball Prospectus needs to add up the WARPs of all those guys and let us have a chuckle.

You don’t need to be a paying member to get WARP3 figures:

Sabathia: 9.4
Carmona: 9.7
Sizemore: 9.1
Gutierrez: 2.9
Peralta: 8.9
Gomez: 2.2 (mostly with Baltimore)
Betancourt: 4.8
Perez: 2.6
Garko: 4.2

J.D. Drew: 4.6

I think it’s fair to say Drew was not a great acquisition at the price they paid - he wasn’t bad this year, he just wasn’t worth the salary - but you can’t just compare money-to-WARP; it’s about opportunity cost too. David Ortiz also costs a bundle of money, more than all those guys combined I believe, but he only occupies one roster spot and does all that damage as just 1/9th of the lineup, so his WARP3 of 9.8 is immensely valuable even though it’s less than all those Indians combined. You can’t just replace one guy with a bunch of guys.

Frank: if you move out of Ottawa will the Senators win The Cup?

I predict the next two games will go to the humidor and the Rockies will sweep.

Although I’m first and foremost a Boggsian Red Sox alum, I was born and raised in Ohio so I’m a terribly sentimental Indians fan. The Rockies on the other hand, well they’re my home team and they’re really fun to watch. It’s the second-best ball field I’ve ever seen and it’s got some of the nicest down-to-earth players you could meet.

Is anybody else feeling it? I can’t quite explain it. What’s the opposite of shame?

Pride.

Go Rockies!

It is 45 degrees F right now in Denver and drizzling. I wouldn’t be surprised to see a few flakes of snow tonight. About 20 miles west of Coors Field there is 5" of snow. Of course, that is 1000 feet higher as well. It will be better tomorrow (still cold) and Wednesday will be nice.

Damn! Almost had a triple play.

Is it raining as hard as it looks on TV?
