The Major League Baseball Playoff and Predictions Thread

:smack: And his 0-1 in the ALDS that same year. Choker!
:stuck_out_tongue:

Yep.

A-Rod’s career postseason line:

AVG .280
OBP .362
SLG .485
OPS .847

Lower than his career numbers, for sure, but hardly awful.

This great post-season choker has played in three AL Championship Series. In those series, his numbers are:

AVG .315
OBP .413
SLG .611
OPS 1.024

But i’m sure it’s his fault that his teams lost all three of those series.

We went to some games up in Cleveland and the fans were apathetic for the most part, then they booed Cliff Lee. Then they were apathetic again.

To me, Cleveland fans (and I am one!) pretty much suck. They have a “what have you done for me lately?” mentality.

At the same games were the most gawdawful Boston fans. They were arrogant, disgusting, and obnoxious.

I guess what I’m saying is that I don’t know of any fans who deserve a championship. Fans pretty much suck.

Really? Interesting.

It might be partly homerism, but I’ve viewed Browns fans as some of the best in sports. Despite having nothing at all to cheer about in 7 of the last 8 seasons, they’re always out there, in the thousands, at 7 in the morning tailgating even when it’s 15 degrees out. The stadium will sell out and mostly fill out even after a horrible season where the team just needs to be put out of its misery.

And as I said, being part of the “Cleveland sports fan collective” above, in my experience those nuts seem to be generally be fans of all of the Cleveland sports, which is why I bring up the football fans regarding baseball fans. Maybe I’m wrong, though, and it’s a different crowd.

Thanks for the info on the team.

I’ll be the first to admit that Philly fans aren’t the most…polite. We’re a pretty angry, grumpy bunch.

But the problem is cyclical. For instance: I’m 21. I have never in my life seen a Philadelphia team win a championship, not in hockey, nor football, nor basketball, nor baseball. They’ve gotten to the playoffs, yes, but inevitably, Philly teams choke. Which leads to a feeling of, “Well, they’re doing now, but chances are they’re going to screw up in some idiotic fashion before it’s over.”* It’s great to be a loyal fan and all, but…man, it’s frustrating.

So we boo and act obnoxious, because being a Philadelphia sports fan is like banging your head against a wall. Maybe because of that (causes brain damage, y’know), even after they screw up, we’ll still be back next season, because they’re Our Team. (again: I’m a lifelong Phillies fan, despite their 14-year slump).

*As I watch boneheaded management send us from a 3-2 lead to trailing by 3…

14 years? You don’t know from slump!

sob

That’s since last playoff appearance, not championship.

I mean, we know from slump.

So far the announcers are so mucher better than fox it is hard to believe. Once again, I find Tony Gwynn very refreshing.

It is hard to believe that Doug Mientkiewicz got injured by a cameraman before the game. He is a most unlucky player.

So far Jeter is 0-3 but CC’s pitch count is already extremely high for the 4th. Bobby gets a big double, does CC walk A-Rod?

Jim

This.

Also…10,000 losses. The entire Phillies’ franchise history is one giant slump.

Well that was deflating, but at least CC is probably done already.

Oh go soak your head! You have a World Series within the last 99 years.

Doug (waiting for the inevitable Cub screw up)

I think I need a lie down after that.

8 innings and 12 runs later he says “the Indians are looking impressive.”

As a Cleveland fan, I hate hate hate hate hate national announcers. You’d have thought it was a 1-run game the entire time. Tomorrow, I am listening to the game on the radio, 4-second delay be damned.

And jsgoddess…I think you’ve got Tribe fans pegged wrong. Personally, I think we’re a great bunch. They even gave us a “retired number”

Look at attendance earlier this year.

And if you went to any games, recall the apathy.

We went to six games. It was like a tomb most of the time. Granted, one of those games was the first game and a snowout and we froze our asses off, but still.

My office is next to the family room with the big TV. The last two days I have been listening to the radio at my desk while I have the TV on next door. The radio is ahead of the broadcast by about 6-7 seconds, so when I hear something amazing happen, I can run over and watch it happen on TV. While the Rockies announcers were screaming and falling out of the booth after Kaz Matsui’s grand slam, I ran to the TV to hear “And it’s over the fence, Rockies take a 6-3 lead.” Huh? A 150 lb. second baseman with four HR’s all year just plants one 20 rows up in the right field bleachers for a grand slam and that’s all you can say?

The national announcers try so hard to be unbiased that they are complete buzzkills. Baseball needs someone like Charles Barkley and the TNT Basketball analysts to provide commentary.

Eh, maybe it’s just the folks who can afford to go to games that are wankers (no, not calling YOU a wanker). Remember, Cleveland is one of the poorest cities in the country.

Or maybe it’s non-smokers who are apathetic. No smoking at the Jake now. No stepping out, either.

Trust me, I am at home rooting my ass off. I can’t even afford cable, I listen on the radio. Tonight I had to sneak my way into my bro’s in-laws house to experience my first HDTV game.

Anyway, Tribe fans aren’t rude…maybe apathetic. But consider the team history. A big swell up to losing a world series. Then the dismantling of a team, then a lot of almost-sort-ofs. And a whole nation of sports pundits who brush us off for the likes of the “society page” boys in NY. If people are booing at Tribe games, they’re passionate. If they’re not showing up, they’re frugal

I’m not apathetic - I’m a realist. And I’m scared. (But a lot less scared now!!!)

Rockies take two! Denver Walmarts will be sold out on brooms tomorrow…

Screw up 2/3 of the way complete. Arizona wins, 8-4, to take a 2-0 lead against the Cubs.

Hey now. The Phillies like to come from behind (for reference, consult, uh, the 2007 season). They’ve got the Rockies exactly where they want them, and starting Saturday we’re going to see some insane ass-kicking, Philly style.

ohpleaseohpleaseohpleaseohplease…

Oh!!! You mean the FANS are going to be playing!!! :stuck_out_tongue: :stuck_out_tongue:
