The Many Saints of Newark (Film sequel to The Sopranos)

I didn’t see a past thread for this but…

A film called The Many Saints of Newark is currently in production. It is a prequel to The Sopranos and will take place in July 1967 during the Newark Riots. It will likely focus on Tony’s father, Johnny Boy Soprano, and his uncle Junior as well as on the racial tension in Newark in the era. The script has been written by David Chase, who created The Sopranos, and will be directed by Alan Taylor, who directed many episodes of The Sopranos and Mad Men.

I look forward to the casting and more details.

The title says sequel, and I was wondering if we were going to find out what happened at the end of the series. Maybe you can ask a mod to change it for you.

James Gandolfini’s son to play the young Tony in the movie

If you watched The Deuce (also on HBO and about Times Square in the 1970s and the “Golden Age of Porn”), you might remember Michael Gandolfini from that. He was Bobby Dwyer’s son, whom Bobby (brother-in-law of Vincent and Frankie, the twins played by James Franco) put to work in the massage parlor as a janitor.

also I meant to add that in this movie Tony is not the lead character which makes sense because of his age. Uncle Junior and Tony’s father are main characters. (as noted above)
