I’m watching the Masters right now, and it’s pretty enjoyable with one exception: no one can seem to make ANY putt! Aren’t these guys supposed to be pros? If Fred Couples made all of his 6 foot putts, he’d be winning by a stroke or two.
Also, whatever happened to David Duval? He shot a 32 on the back nine Friday, the same round where he shot a 10 on the second hole. He used to be so good!
But congrats to Phil Mickelson on winning his third major. I know that it’s not over, but no one ever storms back to win these things. Sunday comebacks never happen, and Phil’s up by three, so I’m willing to declare him the winner.
Of course, I’ve ensured that Phil will quadruple-bogey 18.
I was definitely rooting for him to flub a chip, just for the drama.
It didn’t happen.
All in all, Phil’s had a good career (not to mention that it’s still going on) and a very pretty wife.
By the way, was it just me, or did Eldrick call the ball, the putter, the course, the round, or himself a bitch? My lip reading might be off, but i coulda sworn I saw it come out.
One of the things that makes the Masters so hard is that it’s not easy to putt there. The greens are generally rock hard, and have almost the texture of billiard cloth. And there’s not a straight section to be found. Almost any put of more than a few feet has some sort of break to it.
Also, it’s intimidating. A lot of players wind up putting short or long because missing the wrong way can be disastrous. If going past the cup by more than a couple of feet means the ball will catch a slope and roll 20 feet away, you’re going to see a lot of guys under-hit the ball.
That’s what makes watching it so much fun. The Masters is the only golf tournament I make sure to watch every year. It also helps that it’s available in High Definition, and it’s one of the most beautiful courses around. Great eye candy.
