I’ve always liked the show; but like a lot of fellow dopers I wouldn’t even watch the Red-John-centric episodes. I was so glad they killed him off.
I was worried there was then going to be several episodes where they had to find people with the same arm tattoo and break apart the sect. That doesn’t seem to be the case; and I hope they don’t resurrect it later on.
On a positive note, I like the FBI thing that it looks like they’re moving into. It opens up the show for more episodes besides the CBI stuff. Jayne’s new boss is a good guy to enjoy hating. He had the same role on Sons Of Anarchy a season or two ago. (I haven’t seen SOA this season yet, is he still on?)
It’s really too early to tell, but I think I’m going to like the new FBI direction. The parts of the show I enjoyed the most were Jane out-thinking everyone around him, and I hope he gets to do that again. I also really enjoyed Cho being Cho - I’m going to need a good dose of that every episode.
First episode of the new arc was one of the better episodes of tv I’ve seen this season. I’m quite hopeful. There needs to be a new arc of some type, would be interesting if it were personal growth for Jane. We shall see.
I was tired of the Red John storyline, especially since it seemed implausible that an insane serial killer would be able to get that many people to do his bidding, including murder and covering up crimes. I much preferred the standalone stories, so I’m hoping the show moves to an episodic format.
They briefly tried this with Castle, and then I think they changed their minds and put everyone back where they were.
The FBI aspect could be fun - opens up to NYC or Los Angeles or Miami or Hawaii or wherever to solve a crime. This would make the stories perhaps more interesting and varied.
Remains to see how they will be able to “gather the old gang” back together as a unit - if that is what they intend to do.
And SO VERY GLAD that Red John nonsense is over. Too many red herrings for Red John, over far too many episodes for me to even care anymore.
…and getting tattoos that would incriminate them. Yeah, super-plausible!
I’m not this show’s biggest fan (I prefer the original, Psych), but watch most episodes because my mother enjoys it and it gives us something to chat about in our emails.
It would be more entertaining to see Jane outsmarting everyone, again. But of course that requires good writing, and it seems as though that expense hasn’t been in the production budget in recent years.
I was so disappointed in the Red John wrap-up. I’m still not over it! I kinda liked the reboot except I don’t believe Patrick didn’t figure out that Kim was not on his side. I will miss the interaction between Rigsby and Cho, but there should be enough Cho to smooth my ruffled feathers. It seems the team will be Lisbon, Patrick, and Cho. Hopefully each episode will be a stand-alone and there won’t be any more RJ or Blake Association stories, although I gotta LOT of questions about Red John.
So I’m never really one for these ‘will they or won’t they’ crime show things where the hero and heroine might get together, but I kinda want Jane and Lisbon to get together.
Thats my thought as well - Jane was finally willing to take his ring off for FBI lady, so its posible he’s ready to date - but it won’t/shouldn’t be Lisbon.
No, it shouldn’t be Lisbon. Lisbon should be with that rich guy she slept with years ago, and Jane should be with, well, maybe Kim the FBI lady - I think we’ll be seeing her again.
Lisbon should definitely be with Walter Mashburn (after Mashburn runs his Maserati over Tommy Volker, neatly ending THAT story) and Patrick should just cat around. I don’t want Lisbon and Patrick together, and I want Patrick to play the field.
I would have liked to have been a fly on the wall during the Castle discussions. I made a prediction after the season finale that there was no way that this season of Castle wouldn’t be a train wreck no matter which direction they took it. Yet, they managed to handle it pretty well, if you ask me.
Now so I don’t hijack my own thread. It’ll be fun watching how they bring everyone back into the fold. Will they all be equals. In a way I think they need to keep Cho reporting to Lisbon; but I can’t see them taking the entire team on as new FBI agents to set up the same reporting structure they had at the CBI.
Well, they won’t bring everyone back – Rigsby and Van Pelt won’t be back. Abbott is the new boss. I suspect agent Kim – was that her name? – will be put on the team. Lisbon doesn’t have FBI training, and Cho does, so will Cho be her boss? Or will Lisobn also be a consultant? She doesn’t have the wild thinking that Jane does so well – her job is to be the wall he bounces off of, and to control his wilder impulses.
I agree, the vibe between them is more brother and sister, but she does seem to have a crush on him now. How sad, her sitting home alone with a glass of wine, rereading his letters.
And after this week’s exciting episode, we find:
Jane’s still Jane. (huzzah!)
Kim is going to be in for a world of discomfort.
Lisbon gets to sit back, smile at Kim’s discomfort, and know things ('cause she’s had time to read.)
Cho is going to do subtle disbelieving takes at the other FBI agents (especially Wiley)
I’m guessing (hoping) Abbott won’t show up as much once the new premise is fixed in the viewer’s hearts and minds.
I liked seeing Lisbon’s rebel streak come out. She won’t be as loyal to the FBI rules as she was to CBI, so she can be a bit more of an outsider, with Jane, than an insider. How long before Kim starts to relax the rules herself?
I’m still very fond of Cho, and am glad Rigsby’s gone.
