Andy Geiger…the man, the legend…the sloth?
In all of Ohio State’s history, there has not been a more influential AD to the sports programs. Building a nice new arena for Basketball and Hockey. Re-furbishing the much-dilapidated Ohio Stadium, while keeping it’s fragile tradition intact. Bringing in one of the greatest coaches to revive a slumping Basketball team.
However, when it comes to the one sport that *REALLY{/i] matters in Columbus, football, he doesn’t seem to utilising the sense of urgency that the locals have hoped for. Hopefuls are slipping through his fingers.
While Youngstown State’s Jim Tressel, Minnesota’s Glen Mason, and OSU’s own Offensive Coordinator Fred Pagac wait patiently, Geiger is slowly picking his way through all of his possible options before making the commitment. Even Chris Spielman has had an interview, but since he turned down an assistant position last year, he probably won’t get the call.
Yesterday’s “Big Name” was Oregon’s Mike Bellotti, but he said “no” and went home. Today it was the Oakland Raiders’ Jon Gruden, but within hours of the initial report, he refused an interview. So, who could Geiger’s “Mystery Guest” be tomorrow, or the day after that? And will the 3 current candidates wait that long?
Mostly, I’m scratching my head as to why Archie Griffin hasn’t even been considered!
P.S. - Mods, I was struggling to decide where this thread fit…but since I’m asking a few questions and looking for opinions…I figured this is the safest place. Please move as you see fit. Thanks!
