I like to believe that in Panama, that’s what everyone wears. Like, to Wal-Mart. Seriously, this is hilarious, and almost the only countries that got the memo are Caribbean, African, or Central/South American. I am embarrassed for you, Belgium. Did you even try? Did you assume “national costume” is what you found in your closet, as opposed to dressing up like a Venezuelan dragon? For shame.
That was a fun few minutes. I did like Miss Japan and Miss Singapore, their costumes were lovely I thought. Miss Ireland (my home) was decidedly odd, not as bad as some but definitely odd.
Miss Peru’s costume was really neat, and I liked that some of the Asian countries stayed very traditional (Japan, Singapore, China, Malaysia) in their design. I was, however, a little disappointed that France and Denmark took their “national costumes” from the same time period and showed little imagination.
I like Miss Cayman Islands and Miss China the most, though Miss Costa Rica is also striking. Well, Miss Romania dressed as a sort of replica of Vlad Tsepes is neat
Most of the costumes are just way overdone though.
If the Miss Universe pageant was to the death, my money would definitely be on her. Though Miss Botswana is carrying a big stick. I wonder if she speaks softly?
Apparently the slideshow app is set up so all your links redirect to the first page. For those following at home, it’s pictures # 13, 15, 19 and 33.
Nice shout-out from Miss Chile to the trapped miners (copper, Zsofia, not coal)
A lot of the Europeans didn’t even bother, merely showing up in whatever’s currently in style there. Which I don’t blame them for - I believe this show was badly made lame years ago when they eliminated the parade-of-countries segment.
Meanwhile Miss Germany is also dressed for Lolita Night at the strip club. But wait, is that a bat on Romania’s shoulder? 'cause Hungary in turn seems to have a headpiece representing bat ears.
And as you can probably imagine, that thing Miss Puerto Rico is wearing has only the remotest resemblance to anything – it’s “inspired” by a form of Afro-Puerto Rican folk mask.
