The Missing Boyscout

They Found him!

This is so great! last I checked they had not found him but only his mess kit! I know his family is super happy!

Looks like his Boy Scout training came in handy. He survived three nights in the woods, with temps well below freezing on at least one night.

They’re making a movie about him already? Wow…ohhh, wait.

'cept for the part about wandering off into the woods alone and unprepared.

Thanks for the good news! I’ve been thinking about him.

Yeah, but this thread is not about entertainment or the arts, so I’m moving it to MPSIMS.

The book mentioned in the article sounds like Hatchet, by Gary Paulsen. I just mention that in case there’s a prize for figuring that out, or anything.

Great news. I was beginning to get “that sinking feeling” with regard to a safe return.

Why did one of the reporters ask if he still had his clothes on when they found him?

Alien anal probing?

Because one symptom of hypothermia is the sensation that you’re too warm. Victims tend to whip their clothes off and wander in circles. Weird but true.

Also a sypmtom of excessive alcohol intake.

BTW, if you’re ever stuck in the forest pine needles and pine branches, and regular tree leaves can be good insulators.

Thanks, that makes alot of sense.

The name of the dog which helped find him is being reported by CNN.com as “Gandolf.” For the Professor’s sake, I hope that’s a misspelling by the media.

Well, in case there’s a prize, I’ll toss out the title “Scott Free” - an uber-crappy thriller I read last year. Need the winner be present?

Oops. There was a prize, but I already ate it. Guess I owe you half an imaginary chocolate chip cookie.

They made it in 1991. Tony Scott is very prescient.

Finally, an explanation for my behavior at that party freshman year.

CNN.com has corrected the spelling of the dog’s name to “Gandalf.” Whew!
