The Mistreatment of Iraqi Citizens

Amnesty International has become concerned about the treatment of Iraqi citizens by U.S. and U.K. military forces.

AI does not permit their articles to be altered or reposted, so I am posting a link instead:

Please don’t excuse this kind of behavior by stating the obvious – that our military women and men are being killed by Iraqis. I’m all for imprisoning anti-coalition forces who would do us and their fellow Iraqis harm. But that does not give us license to torture even the guilty, much less the innocent.

If we are going to play cowbody, at least we should wear white hats.

Besides the fact that it is wrong, it is beyond wrong, it is utterly stupid, because this is going to backfire big time. Every mistreated Iraqi will be an anti-American propagandist and recruiter. This will come back to bite the USA in the butt.

Whatever the reality of it, it wouldn’t be hard for the perception of the Iraqis to be that nothing much has changed.

The risk of a neighbour making a false accusation, the goon squad arriving and making you “disappear”, is still there.

If sanity is to rule this world we must not lose the ability to make distinctions.

This is stupid. Amnesty International is simply asking for an answer to complaints. How many rights from wrongs did Amnesty International accomplish by addressing Saddan Hussein?

Pity me. I’m losing my ability to tell the difference between the heart-felt comments of rational posters to this board and the self-medicating hateful mouthings of the True Believers.
