:dubious: Half bull/half steer? A male bovine with one testicle?

Yes BBBobio, the owners of the farmhouse, from whom we bought said beast, had done the castrating themselves and only got one testicle removed. Let me tell you, that was a feisty beast! He used to break out of the barn in order to nosh on fallen apples, always when I was home alone. I would get the broom and herd him toward the barn, halfway there he would remember that he was bigger than me and would chase me back to the porch. This would go on for the better part of an hour before I managed to get him back on the right side of the fence. I’m certain it was an amusing sight! :o

Hmm.

Born in Northampton MA and lived in Conway MA while my father was in Korea (unfortunately he came back).

Ft. Devens MA

Hanover Ct after my mother left my father

Auburn MA after my mother and father got back together and then for a bit after she divorced him.

Worcester MA at 5 years old. Stayed until 20 years old. But, during that time I lived in two different locations with my mom and sisters and then 7 different foster homes.

East Douglas for a few weeks for a foster home too.

Still in Worcester, I lived in an apartment with my sister and her family and then another apartment with a roommate - from 18 to 20.

Chicopee MA with Sweetie from 20 to 27

Plattsburgh NY (specifically - Wiggletown) with my sister and her family while Sweetie and I took a break from 27 to 29

Chicopee MA with Sweetie again for 2 months still 29

Southbridge MA 29 to 32.

And here I be.

So, I’m not allowed to use my gym for a bit. I have to use a pool. Luckily I can get a medical hold on my membership payments but the 1 month membership at the Y costs twice what my gym membership costs. I could use my best friend’s mom’s pool but driving there every day would cost more than the Y membership. Stupid hip.
Today is Holly’s graduation from Tricks class. She still hasn’t learned to play fetch but her personality, ability to ride in cars without puking, and interactions with other dogs and people have all improved so much that everyone is thrilled with how she’s done. She even made friends with the dog who works next to us at the center and he doesn’t like any other dogs. I’m so proud of my little monkey.

The next class we do is definitely going to be for Ginger though. She is the only one who hasn’t had a class of her own.
I’m supposed to have my Tupperware orientation tonight but if there’s one next week I’m going to skip out because I’m not sure a 50 minute drive over MA roads with a 23 year old Jeep is really what the doctor ordered.

While one nut remained the critter wasn’t any steer. In my book, there would be two options: 1) find a vet to finish the job, or 2) convert him into a whole lotta hamburger and start again with a new, nutless calf.

I ain’t skeered of farm animals, except for bulls.

Places I’ve lived:

Illinois – I grew up in a suburb of Chicago and lived there my entire youth
South Carolina – basic training, Ft. Jackson for 3 months
Georgia – AIT at Fort Gordon for another 4 months
Turkey – Stationed near Istanbul for 1 year and 26 days
North Carolina – Stationed at Ft. Bragg for another 2 years
Charleston, IL – School at Eastern Illinois university for 4 years. Lived in the dorm the first and the same house for years 2-4.
Suburb – Moved back to the suburb for a few years after graduation
Des Plaines, IL – Rented there for about a year
Chicago – Moved into a tiny, tiny apartment with my wife to be, then moved to a condo near Logan square, now in a house near Portage Park.

My relationship with that boyfriend was so tumultuous, I had a 60 mile round trip commute to work in addition to said boyfriend’s parents and two children staying every weekend at the farm, with me being the sole cook/maid, that other than feeding the animals and gathering eggs and chasing the dam beast back into the pasture pretty much every day I didn’t have the time to deal with his retained testicle! Fortunately for me he was only 8 months old and not too big, although he frequently chased me. The design of the barn was fubar, I had to dump a can of grain into his trough and then go through the door to his pen and through another door to get the eggs. More than a few times he waited and trapped me in his pen when I left the chickens. It’s a good thing I was raised around cows, he never really scared me, but he did like to chase me and to pin me in his stall.

I was really looking forward to eating him!

In broad terms, I grew up near Chicago, moved to San Francisco for two years, moved to Sacramento for about one year, then back to San Francisco for 18 years, then two years ago, exiled to North Carolina.

My blue guest room is clean, so if anyone wants to visit, I’m ready! Tomorrow, I’ll attack the green guest room, AKA, my yarn stash room.

I feel a sense of accomplishment. Go me!

Now that he knows I can repair sewing machines, DH is looking online for more.
:smack:

Well, gotti, you know how it goes - no good deed goes unpunished…

Road trip!

Worked, came home, having martinis.

W00T! 1st on 2nd!

Every now and again I realize, damn I’m good at this management thing. I do screw up, don’t get me wrong, but every now and again, I get it right.

Great OP, Soapy, thanks for it.

Let me see if I can remember all the places I’ve lived so far. FTR, we moved around a lot when I was growing up (Dad is a minister) but the past 30 years (until 2011, that is!) have been pretty much in the same area.

birth to age 3: Wilmington DE, Chester PA, Mount Royal NJ

age 3 to age 5: Morenci MI

age 5 (start of kindergarten) to age 6 1/2 (mid-way thru 1st grade): Comstock Park, MI

age 6 1/2 to nearly 10: Manistee MI

age 11: Interlochen MI

age 12-14: Wilmington DE (two different places)

High School was spent in Milford DE; college at University of Delaware in Newark, DE.

Then I lived 1 year, after my 4th year of college, in Princeton NJ before moving to Washington DC. Since then (1975), I had lived in various neighborhood in DC and suburban MD until moving to Albuquerque NM in June 2011, when I retired.

Whew! Weather is nice, a bit warm for me for May, but oh well. At least it’s not humid. I saw a bit of the eclipse last night - how great is it to be right in a prime viewing area for something like that?! Better to watch the time-lapse videos, though - fantastic!

Hope everyone is holding up okay - thoughts and prayers for those who need them. Picu, hope you get your eyesight straightened out okay, will be thinking of you. I am so glad to be able to see without cataracts now, btw.

Really? Cuz I lived right next door in the 'Ville for a whole lot of my life.

Just saw the most amazing thing happen, I was sitting on the back porch and this small but not tiny bird flew through a chain link fence and landed on a branch not six inches from said fence. Smallish red and grey bird, that I will not attempt to identify, but it had to completely fold its wings to fly through the hole and spread em out to land. It was flying fast and I have to admit pretty cool to see.
There is an ice cold beer with my name on it, calling “Jim come drink me”. I will submit to the voice
That is all

Have a nice evening all, that is where it’s evening, the rest of youse just enjoy what you got:p

Dang you people are chatty and move around a lot! I wonder just how many of you are still where you were when I last posted this mornin’.

Home from men’s night at the church house. We had twenty four gentlemen there tonight! I usually plan for around eighteen plus a few more so tonight it turned out there was enough for everyone but if one more person had shown up, well, he mighta been left out. Yes, I do the plannin’ of the sides and stuff each month. Others show up to do the prep work besides me as several of us take turns but the plannin’ is what I do. Guess I should maybe start to plan for more. A good time was had by all however includin’ a little bday celebration for one gentleman who had turned 90 since our last men’s night. We had cupcakes in his honor. We don’t as a rule do dessert but I figured 90 deserves cupcakes. Ok, any excuse for cupcakes.

And on that note, it is time for da bear to go nitey nite.

Nitey Nite Y’all!

That is very cool!

I got roots!

When I came along, family needed another bedroom; new house wasn’t done 'til I was 11 months old. Except for college, I stayed in 2nd house for 20-some years & parents were there for 39. Since then, 1 apt & 1 house in 17 years.

Or for the positive spin, I know the history of the area.

Sorry, I’ve not read the entire thread yet, but you know about this…How?

I think the less said about that, the better. Yecch.
