I can’t believe ABC is doing this, but they are pulling the Mole 2 half-way through it’s run(actually, only 3 eps. in, but still).
They said they will air the rest of it in January or March, but this really sucks. They put it on Friday night and didn’t advertise it worth crap and then they are surprised when it has low ratings? Idiots!!!
You know, I think that the networks (and this includes the innumerable cable stations) increasing habit of moving things about on a moment’s notice is actually working against them. If they want to get a large and loyal audience for a show, they must make it easy for viewers to tune in on a regular basis. The success of, say, Thursday night must-see TV is not just due to the quality of the show, but to the fact that sitcom lovers always tune in at that time, knowing that’s where the sitcoms will be.
I hope they are ready for truly abyssmal ratings when they put Mole 2 back on. It had a chance now, but it won’t then.
I hate this. I just can’t believe it…the only ABC show worth watching and they’ve pulled it? And I reserve that emoticon for truly bad things. Sigh.
We know that the contestants are forbidden from revealing the outcome of the game, whether they won or were the Mole or what, until the episodes are broadcast. Presumably, this includes spending their money like crazy…if Darwin bought a million-dollar house and a new Mercedes, people would soon figure it out.
So what happens now? I suppose they’re not allowed to reveal anything until the show gets aired next year – and what happens if they decided NEVER to air the program? Are they not allowed to talk about it, EVER???
JET- I never thought about that. Now ABC HAS to bring it back, if not just for the loyal viewers, but for Darwin, and his house. Will he ever get his mercedes? I hope so. (Though I’m banking on Dorothy or Anderson now.)
You want to know what happens if they don’t air it? The winner does not get the money, nor does the Mole, nor do the other players(who are paid smaller amounts).
Yep, even if they film the whole thing and have a winner, you don’t get anything unless they air it. This was made clear over and over and over again.
We had to sign many different releases and there was a special one that was just about this. It read, “I am aware that even if the contest is held, if the Producers decide to not broadcast the contest, the prize money will not be issued to me/the other contestants.”
I signed it, wasn’t chosen, and now I’m kinda relieved.
Of course, they are airing the show in either January or March of 2002, probably picking up where they left off.
I brought this up on another message board and got replies from several fans of the first Mole who weren’t even aware that Mole 2 had started up!
ABC put it in a horrible time slot (ABC Friday nights has always been kiddie programming as long as I can remember. NOBODY in The Mole’s target demographic is tuning in to ABC on Fridays), and failed to advertise it (nobody knows about it, even some Mole fans!). In other words, they gave the show no chance to succeed.
It had a reasonable time slot last season, and some semblance of advertising, and it drew 10+ ratings and the viewership was still growing as the series wrapped up. So when they’ve got a good thing going, why in the world did they move it to Friday??? Sigh.
I’m not happy about it. I love The Mole. Anybody who watches it knows that it beats the crap out of Survivor. The production of the show is so cool. The concept is brilliant. The settings rule. Anderson Cooper is a great host. The players have to actually use their brains and have some SKILL to win the game (Tina from Survivor 2 I’m looking in your direction).
If they don’t give the show a fighting chance when it comes back, I’ll be flippin’ out.
