What happened to The Mole?

So, I only caught a few episodes of the original The Mole including the finale and such. Now its “debuting” on a specialty channel over here in Korea and I’ve been watching the episodes that I missed. I enjoy the show very much.
I never saw The Mole II, but I heard that it was a big flop and was even taken off the air in mid-run? Was it that horrendously bad, why?

I understand there is Celebrity Mole on now with Ahmad Rashid… which I doubt is helping the franchise.

Mole 2: The Next Betrayal started airing but was pulled after three episodes due to ratings. It was later aired in full and this time the ratings were good enough to cause the network to sign for Celebrity Mole. Assuming ratings for it are acceptable, there will be a Mole 3 (4?).

Ahamd Rashid is doing Celebrity Mole since Anderson Cooper has left ABC for CNN.

I have a Mole 2 site if you are interested, but admit that I never got the review for the last two episodes up.

Cancelled I hope, I hope Celebrity Mole is the end of that shows run.

Where did they get the celebrities anyway, from use to have a career, but I haven’t done anything in a while, and now I am resurrecting my career, I hope this does it.

Usually, when any show does a “Celebrity” special, it’s the last gasp for that series.

I miss Cooper. He was ten times the host that Ahmad “Real TV” Rashad is. Sometimes I get an unintentional chuckle whenever I see Anderson C. on CNN – like when he was reporting on the Beltway Sniper, he said, “There have been 10 victims, all chosen at random…” and my mind filled in the blank: “…but one of these victims…IS THE MOLE!!!” Ha ha hee ho ha ha…well maybe I’m too easily amused.

The Mole 2 was very good, but like tanstaafl said, initially got pulled due to ratings. When it aired again it was ABC’s leading ratings getting among 18-35 y.o’s.

I’m torn about celebrity mole. I feel like I will lose either way. If it does well, I’m afraid ABC will think that they just need more celebrity mole. But if it does poorly, they will neglect the fact that they ruined the mole concept with the celebrities and just think that the mole won’t work.

I’ve been watching it, there have been some really interesting games in it. The celebrity-ness makes it kind of cheesy. But they have really done some good stuff. I just wish it was regular people.

I’ve no idea why “The Mole 2” got such horrible ratings that it had to be pulled. That was horrible. I was so happy when it came back…

Of course, not they have “The Celebrity Mole,” which deserves to be pulled in mid-show, if only because ANDERSON ISN’T THERE.

bangs head against computer and cries

I wonder if Anderson (or “his people”) follow all the message boards (here, fametracker, TWoP) bemoaning his absence from the Mole.

If so – I love you, Anderson! I don’t care that you’re gay and I’m 48 – I want to have gorgeous, snarky children with you!

This is all vague recollection… The Mole 2 got horrible ratings because it was aired on Fridays at 9 PM. The original show was a spring replacement in a good Tuesday timeslot and did okay there. When it came back in the fall, they didn’t have a good place to put it, so they dumped it on Fridays and it did as well as any Friday show does. Crappy. When they started it up again, they gave it that midweek spot again and it did fine.

Why can’t the networks see how simple this is?

Mr. A. Nemo, we have some Mole I & II topics here if you want to search for them. But bear in mind they show who wins…

The Mole was removed.
