Lots of possibilities, but “Don’t You Forget about Me” is the one that immediately came to mind!
I don’t know any of these songs or artists.
You’re all wrong.
Oh Mickey, you’re so fine
You’re so fine, you blow my mind
Hey Mickey, Hey Mickey
That’s gonna be in your ear all day now.
You’re welcome.
Automatic by the Pointer Sisters
I think the Simple Minds song, too.
Just to be different, tho, I’ll nominate Lee Greenwood’s “Proud to be an American” song, God Bless the USA
Just about any of the suggestions except for that in the OP.
One Night in Bangkok, too.
I’d be tempted to take it a level deeper and nominate Like a Surgeon or Eat It.
What comes to my mind is either “Invisible Touch” or “Highway To the Danger Zone”.
Too Shy by Kajagoogoo
I’ll fight you all.

Level 42’s “Something About You”.
That was the second song I thought of. The Simple Minds works for me, too, but I’m a little surprised it’s already come up that often as the first thing people think of.
Gotta agree that the Tiffany song is an odd one. I mean, yes, it sounds 80s, but if you asked me to name 500 quintessential 80s songs, I don’t think I’d ever get to that one.
Hmm. How about the Ghostbusters theme?
Sorry.
After having read the thread, this is the correct answer.
Cars screams 80s for me.
ETA: Technically it came out in 1979 but so be it.
Love the song. I associate it more with very late 70s, but it looks like while it was a 1979 recording, it hit the US charts in 1980.
