I ran into El Duce once on the Sunset Strip while we were hanging out on the street. I’m glad I’d never heard of him, because then I didn’t have to have that in my mind during the conversation. He was drunk (of course) and banging on about “faggots like that guy with long hair.” Mind you, this was 1989 on The Strip. Having long hair was kind of the law. Turned out he meant Boy George. It takes a special person to get so drunk they get hit by a train.
As someone who’s about as unhip to the hop as possible, I’d say that given the prevalence of the practice in the culture, thinking it’s silly may in fact mean that you/I/they don’t get it.

I knew of him before I saw him, thanks to an interview in Jim Goad’s Answer Me! zine; luckily, I didn’t have a conversation with him, just watched him stumble through a set. (Mr. Goad’s another one who probably belongs in this thread, though I have to admit enjoying his writing.)
I’m still waiting for someone to explain what’s wrong with Miley Cyrus, the only thing i know of her besides her shitty music is that she came out in support of gay marriage after that Miss America debacle last year.

If awful means untalented then I agree with the earlier poster who said the entire cast of Jersey Shore.
Mel Gibson may be gorgeous but he’s also a philandering, anti-Semitic religious fanatic asshole who left the mother of his six children for another woman. I was asked to rate his appeal in a recent online paying survey and completely enjoyed writing down exactly what I think of him.
Jenny McCarthy wouldn’t be quite as annoying if mainstream magazines would finally simply refuse to give her a platform to spew misinformation. If she wants to start her own idiotic website to peddle garbage then let her. But the editorial staff at Time Magazine should have simply ignored her.

Even with the reasonable response that an “awful” meal is not quite up to OJ standards, some of these reasons are pretty petty.

She’s a former prosecutor. I know a lot of prosecutors who act the same way! Please add her to my list. She’s ruining the law the way the people I listed ruined politics.
Hank III’s gimmick is that he celebrates debauchery and drug use–and possibly even satanism–in his music. The part of that bothers people the most, however (after all, there are musicians far more invested in those things) is that he sounds more like grandfather then his dad does, so fans of Hank I feel they have a proprietary claim to that sound and should have some say how III uses it. They want him to give them more I, instead of do his own thing. I guess that makes him awful.
Having seen him play quite a few times over the past 10 years, I’m still curious what kevja’s actual reason for listing him was. I mean, his country shows are packed with old school Hank Sr fans, and they don’t seem to have a problem enjoying his first set and then taking off when he warns them that the metal/punk half is about to start.
For the record, he also performs the longest per show of any other musician I have seen in similar venues. Usually the headliner gives you 45 minutes to an hour, and I’ve seen III do his thing for hours on end. Of course, the drugs could have something to do with that.
This is a very interesting list to me because you not only have the Republican political people on it (as everyone on this board loves to hate) but you have the equally and even more stupid (Bill Mahr) Democratic ones too.

I despise people who make their listerners/viewers so irate (on a daily basis) that they make it impossible to govern this unweildy behemoth known as the U.S. Some things are just not that big a deal, but these asshats have to fill their daily air time. Thus, they fan the flames that make compromise all but impossible.
Both the left and right are equally guilty. I was drawing blank on the lefties, but thought of two more: bloggers Markos Moulitsas and Arrianna Huffington (ok…so I’d still plow her…my peep cares not about the union!). Bloggers are just as bad as the talk radio people.
