how about concentration camps? being tortured/starved and having to perform manual labor, all the while watching this happen to the people around you, and living in fear, waiting for your turn in the showers?
i was wondering, during any of the above tortures (being burned, flayed, drawn and quartered, etc.), would you eventually pss out from pain? would you wake up? enquiring mind wants to know.
he wrote a short SF story (as was to be expected, I’ve forgotten the title) where the protagonist is cloned and killed in a number of incredibly disgusting ways (slow hanging, boiling alive, dying of thirst etc. etc.) , each time with the memory of his previous suffering and deaths intact - and the first task whenever a clone is activated is cleaning the previous corpse away, described in living detail. Not a story for the weak of stomach.
DRY - I did not mean to give the impression he was killed because he was homosexual, sorry about that. It was my understanding (albeit form a work of fiction, so by all means correct me if I’m wrong) that he was killed for the same reason most noblemen were, someone else wanted the throne. The book did mention he was an inept ruler. I meant that the WAY he was killed was possibly linked to his lifestyle.
avacado - I was actually speaking to my one of my co-workers yesterday. She had toured a “torture” museum while in Spain (she left before it was done, being hugele disturbed) and said that when done “right” torturers do not allow thier victims to pass out. Either they change the torture or they allow a “rest” period in which to heal a little and go at it again.
I also thought one of the examples i read about that happened during the holocaust, pregnant women’s thighs being tied together as they go into labour pretty horrific.
I think I am a fairly tough guy, but I tell you I almost cried when I heard that people survived in the Kursk at least for a few hours…maybe longer. That would be right up there.
I heard that in Chile during the heyday of killing/torturing, women were sometimes gangraped and beaten by the guards and then tied over a bench and raped by a rather large dog. They would continue this repeatedly until they tired of her… which was usually several days. A few women were eventually released though and testified to the fact of that happening.
I also remember a story on the news years ago about a young man in a car wreck and trapped in the burning wreckage. After the flames got too close to him in the interior, he decided to “make it quick” and tried to lay down and put his head/upper body in the flames. A rescuer pulled him from the vehicle shortly therafter. He was grateful of course, but he definetly didn’t die “quickly” in the flames.
Slowly run over by a steamroller would also suck… if its something like a couple/few hours long.
How about being cut up badly but alive and being dipped in a rather weak batch of sulfuric acid. Not enough to kill you quickly, but given a couple days…
Forced to eat acid or injected would be up there.
Watching your loved ones raped then killed slowly in front of your eyes before you are killed yourself.
Eeeewwww. I have to stop, I am going to get nightmare out of this.
This has got to be the absolute worst way. At least for me. I’ll have nightmares for a week.
Anybody read Whispers by Dean Koontz? (I think it’s DK.) Two twins are tortured by their mother, who forces them to stay for hours in a cellar full of roaches?
I always thought death by cheesegrater would be pretty bad - use it to scrape off the top layer of skin, over the entire body eventually. I also wish castration via cheesegrater on those I really hate…
I read about an old Chinese torture method that was pretty horrible - I think it was called ‘The Iron Shirt’. They made a shirt out of very fine chainmail, put it on the subject, and tighten it until the skin kinda protrudes through the links. Then they scrape the surface of the shirt, making dozens of tiny holes per square inch on the person’s body, then pour salt water over it. They said by regulating the pressure and other techniques they could keep a person alive for weeks.
yeah, that’s definitely gross, but do you think they’d kill you? if some of the kitchens i’ve lived with are any indication, all you’d need are some dirty dishes, an you’d be safe… for now…
You are quite right on two counts: that the manner of his death was quite likely related to his lifestyle, and that he was killed because someone else wanted the throne.
I wouldn’t say that you gave the impression that he was killed because he was homosexual. I just thought that it could have been taken that way.
And besides, part of my motivation in commenting was so I could show off how much I knew about Edward II.
I know, I know…
But hey, some people around here think that all I do is quote Shakespeare and flirt. That’s not true!
[sub]though if I did intend to hijack this to flirt,** Poysyn** would be a very pleasing candidate indeed[/sub]
ANYWAY, re the OP: Upon further reflection, while the hot poker in the anus isn’t a great way to go (to say the least), I have to say that drawing and quartering was much worse. That barbaric practice was done with an eye to prolonging the victim’s agony. They would start hang you, but cut you down before you were dead. Then cut out your entrails, castrate you, etc. Quaint.
I don’t know. 10 feet deep? You’d drown in a sea of roaches. Up your nose, in your mouth. :GAG: I’m from Texas, and I’m picturing big tree roaches. The kind that chew through the plastic wrapper on a loaf of bread. They can bite skin.
