The movie Zeitgeist is trying to ruin friendships

I don’t know what it is, but every one of the 9/11 CTists I’ve talked to has this attitude that anyone who doesn’t agree with them is a gullible retard who will eat up whatever “The Government” will dish out (sometimes shortened to “sheeple”). The focus of my argument is convincing them that I can have all the evidence they have, research the issue as much or more than them, and still think they are wrong. Once I succeed at that, I can actually engage them in a semi-rational discussion without wanting to punch them in the face.

Most of the time the discussion ends after I say “I’m perfectly willing to believe the government did it, but I don’t see what the mechanism of collapse has to do with determining who is responsible for it.” There’s not really a response, because any “evidence” the CTist has focuses on proving that WTC 1/2/7 were felled by controlled demolitions. Since when can only government insiders plant bombs? The entire CT argument is tailored to misdirect and confuse the listener in to thinking something is proven, but there’s really nothing behind the smoke and mirrors. It’s almost ironic.
*Note that I don’t find the 9/11 CT position to be even slightly reasonable, but the folks who hold those opinions do and sometimes the best you can do is convince them that the other side isn’t necessarily a non-thinking idiot.

Hate to hijack, but you just tied idea that the Jesus story is related to earlier religions to the 911 conspiracy as if they were both thoroughly debunked, equally.

Is that actually so? Recently in a Bill Maher thread, another poster told me the same thing, then proceeded to link to a website that seemed obviously biased and more than a bit…unofficial, shall we say?

As a fan of Joseph Campbell’s writings, and admiring his lifelong, respected works regarding mythology and theology, I have to ask for a cite that the similarities have been widely ‘debunked’.

I am more than willing to accept that it has, but I just have to ask for some evidence of that. If you are willing. Thanks. /hijack.

I’m not going to speak for FriarTed, but for me. From what I remember, Zeitgeist tries to tie Jesus directly to astrology, though I’m not going to give those scumbags one more view by checking to verify. That has been pretty well debunked. That the Jesus story was influenced by earlier religions is still pretty well accepted if I am not mistaken.

In any case, the 9/11 conspiracies have been more thoroughly debunked than perhaps anything, ever.

Thank you. I hadn’t watched the movie before I asked that question.
