This thread about a non-Gabriel/Hackett reunion was getting hijacked by talk of The Musical Box (I started it) so I thought I’d start a new thread. Here’s what I originally said:
A better bet, if anyone gets a chance, is to see The Musical Box, a Genesis tribute band who are phenomenal musicians, and who re-create Gabriel-era Genesis shows down to the last note (no kidding!) and costume. It’s not the boys, but it’s the closest thing most people will ever get. I’ve already seen them do the Lamb tour twice, and it was EXACTLY how I remembered it. Better, strangely, in a way, because I was so, um, high during the real concert that I missed a lot. Also, when I saw the real Lamb tour, I hadn’t yet bought the album, so I was unfamiliar with the story, lyrics and music, and didn’t understand at all what was going on. I loved it, of course, it was electric, but boy was I confused. When I got the album I played it to death and learned every bit of it by heart. It’s still my favorite Genesis album, so I was able to appreciate The Musical Box’s show and cherish it.
In a couple of weeks The Musical Box will be back in Chicago playing two nights. The first night will be the Foxtrox show in its entierty, and the 2nd night will be the Selling England show in its entierty. I’ve already bought tickets to the Foxtrot show, but I still don’t know if I’ll have the money to go to the 2nd show. I wanted to see the Foxtrot show since I discovered Genesis after they toured that album. A ticket, including service charges and $2.00 TicketFast delivery, was $54.something. Ouch, but it’s a once-in-a-lifetime thing.

You made me go looking (I don’t know why I hadn’t ever looked before) and no, I didn’t find any, but I did find a short but interesting documentary! I just about fell over too because it starts out interviewing an old friend of mine who I hadn’t seen for a couple of decades, Armando Gallo! He wrote the definitive biography of Genesis and is a phenomenal photographer who’s followed Genesis from their very early days. I think he quit them around the time the album “Genesis” was released (I recall him saying “They didn’t even bother to name the fucking thing”). He’s always been a huge Peter Gabriel-solo fan, and also a Kate Bush fan. I met him at a Genesis concert and the last time I saw him was on New Years Day in 1984 (Orwell Day), when we visited him at his home in Los Angeles. He moved back to Italy and I lost track of him. Oh it was so nice to see him again!
Anyway, the documentary is good too, and will be a good intro to TMB for anyone who doesn’t know about them.
