The Myron Cope Memorial Steelers March to the Super Bowl Thread

Hey, those guys are teammates this year.

Even when he was a Steeler I always thought this insult reflected very poorly on the people who used it. It would be like trying to insult somebody by calling them Kevlar.

It was more a comment on how impenetrable he is. He is astonishingly vacant.

Negative, the Cowboys did recover the ball but they didn’t have a chance to take possession because the Ref had already called it a touchdown, thereby making the ball dead no matter what. Adam Jones actually picked up the ball and started to run it back but realized it was pointless since the Refs had already signaled for a touchdown. Kind of similar to what happened between SD and Denver with an early whistle. Ergo, Cowboys are in fact bright

No, we’re talking about Plax’ brain = DeSean Jackson’s brain, not the Cowboys not picking up the ball.

When I saw the play for the first time I thought he’d just dropped the pass, so I wouldn’t have picked it up either.

6 sacks in the first half

Ugh! I hope the offense can regroup during half-time. They’re getting so much pressure I don’t think screens or draws are a good option right now to defuse the blitz. I have confidence the D can force some more turnovers though.

If the Steelers win this one, they can pull the horseshoe outta the ass because they didn’t do anything to earn it. Wow, just wow crap quality game.

Anyone call the cops yet?

A thoroughly discouraging game. At first I thought the defense was going to let us down, but they did a respectable job. The offensive line needs a lot of work!

In the first half the Eagles were called for delay of game - on their defense. Can someone explain the call to me?

You in town this week? You didn’t watch last week did you? I blame you for this horrible performance!

Jesus Christ. What the hell was that?

That was perhaps the most embarrassing performance I have ever seen. Ben got crushed, the offense was anemic at best, and how the hell do you ever give up a safety?

At least the defense shut them down most of the game. it’s hard to stop them every time when they have such outstanding field position all the damn time.

Damn. I’m depressed. Monday night the Steelers get the Ratbirds. At least that will be an easy win.

Don’t get all cocky just yet. The Steelers are a half game behind the first place Ravens in the division. The Ravens defense looks good, and the Steelers o-line looks bad - not a particularly encouraging combination for you guys.

The Steelers might have played poorly today (and cost me some good money), but the Rats are still banking on a rookie quarterback following a 4-12 season with the same people. It’s not cocky to say that the Ravens are playing way over their heads, nor is it cocky to say that the Ravens will be brought down to earth in relatively short order.

I still think Pittsburgh is a lead-pipe lock for the division, and I’d say that even if I weren’t a Steelers homer.

It is also mostly the same players from a team that went 13-3 in 2006, so I think your baseline for them is considerably too low. If the defense bounces back from last year, and so far it looks like it has, the Ravens can win 10 games. I think that could be enough.

I seem to remember writing off another team that was banking on a rookie qb after a 6-10 season a few years ago. Bit me in the ass good when they won 15 games. No such ting as a lead pipe lock for anything in week 3.

I also remember who handed them their only defeat that year.

Indeed. Usually the team I’m watching and rooting for does poorly. Some on this board have tried to tell me it is simply confirmation bias (yeah, right, and horoscopes are fake too) but I know it is a real phenomenon.

I didn’t see the replay but usually a delay-of-game on the defense is called when one of the defensive players flinches or does something to try and induce a false start from the offensive players.

Based on yesterday’s game, I think we now have the definitive answer as to why Tomlin didn’t attempt a field goal the week before. He just doesn’t like to kick field goals, period. Down by 9, 4th & 10 inside the opponent’s 30 with under a minute left in the game and no timeouts, and he still didn’t kick a FG.

Not his best moment.

If anything, they should have kicked it on 1st down. A little unconventional, sure, but you need a TD and a FG anyway, plus recovering the onside kick, so why not get the FG as soon as possible and hope that you can recover or at worst get it back with at least a little time left? (I don’t remember how much time would have been left if they had kicked it on 1st down, as I was concentrating on the Broncos game on the radio and not the lousy Steelers-Eagles game on TV. )

Pittsburgh called timeout after getting a 1st down in FG range at the 22 with 1:26 left on the clock and one timeout remaining. I absolutely agree they should have kicked the FG right then.

Instead they ran four plays – spending their final timeout – and turned it over on downs with 37 seconds left in the game.

EDIT: Taken from the play by play.

Stomp some Ravens!

ETA: I need to shut up I say that and Ben throws the INT.
