The Nancy Pelosi appreciation thread

Did they set her up to walk around the salon without her mask while all the salon staff wore theirs?

Part of being in politics in this day and age of video sharing is knowing that you could always be part of a setup. Even if people aren’t all that political, some people just like to watch celebrities (and even non-celebrities) making asses of themselves and sharing it with millions of others. Pelosi, of all people, should know that.

Even being setup, this is survivable but she needs to take this in stride. “Okay, you fuckers got me. I should have had my mask on. My bad. Now let’s get back to Trump bashing, shall we?”

I hope the salon owner got a ton of money from Fox News, because she just made an enemy of one of the most powerful people in Washington who also happens to have a lot of friends in the City of SF.

Not that Nancy would be vindictive, mind you. But jeez, not someone you want to piss off needlessly.

Even assuming Nancy Pelosi isn’t vindictive, I think she is popular enough that the salon owner will lose customers as a result.

She got 87% of the vote in her last election, so she seems fairly popular.

There were no other people around as the video clearly showed. Speaker Pelosi addressed it as a set-up, as did her hairdresser who rents a chair at the salon. She was allowed to come in one day before it was open to the public. This dirty trick to try to discredit her is laughable… but I guess that’s the best they could do.

Keep in mind that the people outraged by this wanted to impeach Obama because he wore a tan suit. Clearly their bar for outrage is quite low. Regardless, I would expect Pelosi to exhibit exemplary behavior when it comes to masks because of her political position and public support of masks. Setup or not, it would have been safer if she was wearing a mask at all times.

A similar situation happened when Fauci was at the National’s baseball game:

Regardless of whether it’s safe for him to remove his mask or not, he is the face of the CV19 response and should have displayed exemplary mask hygiene.

Even if Pelosi thought her salon trip was private, she still should have worn her mask at all times for the protection of the stylist and to clearly show that she takes mask usage seriously, even if it’s just for an audience of one.

Lucky for her she was able to survive this years primary challenge from, among others, someone who actually tweeted:

We need more young people like Kyle Rittenhouse and less like Greta Thunberg

No clue how she overcame such an adversary.

Probably, but it could possibly also gain customers as a result.

Suppose that the salon has a 5% market share and 20% of its Pelosi loving clients don’t come back, but meanwhile 10% of the conservatives in the area decide to use her salon because of her politics, then based on an 87% Pelosi support rate

Loss (.05 consumer base) ( .85 Pelosi supporters)(0.2 stop going there) = -.0087
Gain (.95 consumer base) ( .15 Pelosi supporters)(0.1 stop going there) = .01235

net result .00365

Sometimes taking controversial stances even one only supported by a minority is worth it because it give you a larger share of a smaller pie.

At this point Pelosi could do gym, tan& laundry while maskless and I wouldn’t give a fuck when compared to the malignant behaviors of the ruinous negligent corrupt administration in office

Okay. Are you actually hearing yourself and do you actually understand how this whole mask thing works?

The salon staff are people who were around.
She got her hair washed without a mask.
That means the person was leaning over her while she breathed in his/her face.
The masks are meant more to protect others than they are meant to protect you.
If you infect the salon person, not only are you putting their health at risk, you’re putting everybody they come in contact with at risk.

Just fucking admit Nancy fucked this up all on her own and stop being such a hypocritical fucking sycophant. What you’re doing is what MAGATS do in the Trump cult.

I know this is a trivial issue compared to everything that’s gone on for the past 4 years, but FFS, let’s be better than the Trump cult.

Fauci could at least make the argument that he was in his ‘bubble’. I don’t think Fauci has ever said that you have to wear masks 100% of the time no matter the circumstances.

I gotta laugh at how such a strong powerful woman is such a threat to some.
:mask:

Nancy has no doubt been a very powerful and competent political figure but lately I can’t help but think, “My God lady, you’re 80 years old, when are you gonna retire and let some new blood take the helm”.

Yeah, when you got nothing, make the small mucky argument insinuating misogyny.

Misogyny is precisely why we have this idiot in charge, with almost 200k dead Americans to his name.

Uh, that is done, and done. While I agree that Pelosi made a mistake, there is a very asinine effort by the White House to make hay out of this, I don’t remember seeing a previous white house speaker putting an unflattering video of an opposition leader in a loop while their glass house, that has been pelted with stones many times over, has almost no glass left standing.

Don’t the stylists have to pay the chair rentals even if they don’t have clients?

I’m not really sure how the business model for this woman’s salon is set up, but maybe the appropriate consequence for her would be for all of her stylists to take their businesses (and clients) elsewhere.

It’s more like Shahid Buttar overcame that particular adversary. Deanna’s 4635 primary votes only beat one Democrat (Agatha Bacelar, with 3889). Cite (NYT paywalled).

True and also not what we were discussing.

Aren’t we well past the point of hoping to see a single shred of decency from the Trump GOP? All we have left is making sure our own side doesn’t let us down on the same fucking issues we criticize them about.
