The Nancy Pelosi appreciation thread

Nope, before she could act as President, she would have to resign from Congress and as Speaker, as set out in the Presidential Succession Act:

It’s sad but appreciated that a Canadian has to school me on US law.

Thanks.

Just to be clear, I was NOT offering this as something I wish happens. I love me some Nancy and think she is a total bad-ass force for good where she is. It was more a thought experiment in political manipulation.

And, frankly, given what I’m seeing, Pence can’t resign now, he’s the only guy in the Administration who’s doing anything Presidential right now. And McConnel knows it.

Too bad this thread started before Discourse; it belongs in the Politics and Elections forum.

None of them rise to the negative importance of Quisling ( who if you want to use hysteric Lefty analogy would be Trump). You’re again deluding yourselves in a fashion similar to silly Lefty rhetoric about Permanent Majority…

I am not defending the assholes nor sympathetic, but you Lefties are engaged yet again in self delusion about the degree to which these votes are going to have any meaning like you dream of. Their electoral threats are not from you but the Trumpist zombie virus.

I am in favor of impeachment because just enough Senators on the R side may be sellable on the interest to convict Trump for Party medium longterm interest. Not because of delusion that aving a record voting against serves any abstract purpose with the sole limited and weak exceptions of anyone up in 2 years and in a competitive district. More than 2 years out or in partisan district and its empty Lefty ideologues dreaming it has any meaning. (And I said the same kind of thing about the unhinged Tea Partier rhetoric around the idiocy of Benghazi and votes there)

The New York Times reported (paywall warning, obviously) that Mitch McConnell believes that Trump committed impeachable acts and is OK with the House impeachment because it’s a path to ridding the party of him. (I get the impression that McConnell and other “traditional” Republicans think of Trump as almost a cancer on the party.)

English isn’t your first language, is it?

That is exactly why there’s a chance and why this is different than the first round. Alignment of interests. A lot of normal, say Schwarzenegger type Republicans realize Trumpism is a zombie virus. Needs to be cut out and burned.

Thought I’d resurrect this not-quite-a-zombie…

President Biden thanked House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) for her “masterful” leadership on Tuesday after House Democrats voted in lockstep to advance his economic agenda.

“We are a step closer to truly investing in the American people, positioning our economy for long term growth, and building an America that outcompetes the rest of the world,” Biden said in remarks from the Roosevelt Room. “My goal is to build an economy from the bottom up and middle out, not just the top down.”

Biden said he just got off a phone call with House leadership following the vote to adopt the $3.5 trillion budget blueprint. He thanked Pelosi and also offered praise for House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.), Majority Whip Jim Clyburn (D-S.C.), and Rep. Peter DeFazio (D-Ore.), who chairs the House Transportation Committee.

Biden also recognized Democrats who worked together to come to an agreement on advancing the massive package. Pelosi earlier Tuesday reached a deal with a group of moderates who were pushing for a vote on the Senate-passed bipartisan infrastructure bill before moving to the larger package.

“There were differences, strong points of view. They’re always welcome,” Biden said. “What is important is that we came together to advance our agenda.”

Cast-iron cojones-- she’s got 'em.

She really is remarkable and deserves all credit. I couldn’t agree more.

Pelosi is a badass - a once-in-a-generation parliamentarian. Her task is in many regards even more challenging than Schumer’s or McConnell’s because there is a lot more ideological diversity in the House than there is in the Senate. You can be a completely detached from reality and win a house seat. Fortunately, that’s not quite true in the Senate. You can be a total asshole like Ted Cruz but not divorced from this universe.

Yikes. My friend was watching The Young Turks as I was getting ready to take care of his dog. They aren’t happy:

/quibble/ I reread OP and still wondering why it’s plonked here and not in, say, P + E instead. (Unless if that specific forum didn’t yet exist.) Certainly not lke the lady’s getting pitted. (Definitely not in the OP, anyway.) /Q!/

This.

I figured it was because political discussions usually get ugly fast and plus in the pit you can tell people to shut up and get lost when they get annoying.

^ This - I assumed the discussion would get ugly. As it turns out, most of the conservatives barely touched this thread at all.

They didn’t want to get Nancy Cooties on them.

Right, lol.

I think Pelosi certainly did her part in getting this through the House. I seriously doubt it will pass in the Senate, but she will succeed in putting pressure on Senate Repubs and even some moderate Dems, which is probably what she wanted to achieve. She also takes the pressure off of her back from progress Dems in the House. In fact I suspect that’s probably what she privately told the moderate House Dems “It’s not passing in the Senate, so you won’t own it, but you gotta keep the tribe together here in the House.” Pelosi wants to, at minimum, see the passage of the bill that was sent over from the Senate. The Dems need that bill to pass - and the good news is, even some Senate Republicans want this bill to pass as well, so they will be putting pressure on the House Repubs in conference.

The Young Turks are often guilty of letting the perfect be the enemy of the good. What they aren’t appreciative is that even the bipartisan infrastructure bill is a step in the right direction. Take the half a loaf and quit bitching. The bipartisan Senate bill will pass, the reconciliation bill will pass the House and if all the stars align, the Senate too. The voting rights bill passes the house and unless they make an exception in the cloture rule, it dies in the Senate.

Some of them do get it but think

  1. Let things get bad enough by refusing to compromise at all
  2. Democratic socialist paradise

At least the underpants gnomes had physical product at the end of the day. Some of these clowns would willingly upend society merely to prove a point.
