The new Dukes of Hazzard movie...oh, good lord!

Well, it seems that everyone has been cast except Roscoe.

Jessica Simpson as Daisy
Seann William Scott as Bo
Johnny Knoxville as Luke
Willie Nelson (one can presume he will also sing the main theme) as Uncle Jesse

Think it can’t get any worse? Guess again!

Burt Reynolds as Boss Hogg

I confess to loving this television series when I was a kid. Having admitted that, I’m not really ready for the film version no matter who it stars.

No word on who’ll play Enos yet, either. (Presumably the implied penis/anus jokes will be overt in the big screen version.)

I still maintain that the Dukes’ pot plantation in the hills will have to play a role somehow. I mean, we knew that they were “making their way the only way they know how” and that it was “just a little bit more than the law will allow,” but we never knew exactly where their income came from.

And I think Burt Reynolds as Boss Hogg is brilliant. He does ridiculous so well.

Owen and Luke Wilson were born to play Bo and Luke Duke.

Perhaps, but I don’t think he fits the mold. Roscoe P. Coltrane and Boss Hogg were intended as a modern Laurel & Hardy. I see Burt more as a Stan Laurel, probably due to his being paired with Dom DeLuise so often.

But what about the most CRITICAL casting choices – Coy and Vance?

I must now shun you.

While we’re on the subject, why was Uncle Jesse always making such a big deal out of the fact that the federal government of Revolutionary times had allowed the Dukes to make their own liquor? Is this a common claim among Southern bootleggers? I’ve never heard it elsewhere (but then, I grew up in the Atlanta 'burbs, so maybe I wouldn’t have).

And what about Cooter? Who’s going to play Cooter?

[insert obligatory dirty joke here]

I had the Dukes of Hazzard TV tray way back when, but the only good that can come of this film is a Willie version of Good Old Boys.

Is there still going to be a confederate flag on the car? I find in hard to believe that they won’t catch some crap for that. Maybe make the General Lee a convertable?

They were apocrypha; the makers of this are orthodox.

I wonder if Willie will sing the theme song now that Waylon is dead? I can totally hear him.

My casting choices:

Enos- Matthew Lillard
Roscoe- Billy Bob Thornton (I’ve seen him play retarded and crazy, but stupid might be cool*)- if Billy Bob is too expensive, give it to Sonny Shroyer (it’s time he graduated)
Cooter- Charles Dutton (this is rural Georgia- about time we saw a black guy)
Lulu Hogg- Delta Burke
Cletus- John Davidson

I’m afraid I won’t be able to see it, in any case.

You see, my father banned it from our house when we were kids because it gave “a bad impression of the police”.

:dubious:

Sounds like the General will still be the General, yes.

*Reminder: Roscoe wasn’t really stupid when the show started, just corrupt. He had been a straight-as-an-arrow sheriff for 20 years when retired without pension and turned to his brother in law Boss to survive. As the show progressed he became cartoonishly stupid and evil.

I can’t believe I know these things. Must go punish myself with a stapler.

My mom had pretty much the same reaction at first. I wasn’t allowed to watch it until the second season.

I wonder if they used the Stars and Bars they’d catch less flack.
