It has been approved by the FDA for the 2026-2027 flu season, with accelerated approval for adults 65 and over. It’s supposed to be more effective than the old flu vaccine, and in addition, they can be quicker about tailoring it to the most current strain of flu going around.
We’d like to get it. The trouble is, my local CVS says they won’t be carrying it for this year’s flu season, and the pharmacist at Safeway was only vaguely aware of it and didn’t know if or when they’d be carrying it, either.
So maybe I should call my GP and see if their office will offer it? Has anybody else asked around about this?
Sure, I don’t see where it would hurt to ask. If you have a boutique practice they might even be more likely to have access it. But if you’re in an HMO like me (Kaiser) you’ll get what they’ve got, end of story

My inclination is to wait a year as there is a possibility of rare, serious side-effects from a new medicine which has only been tested on a relatively small number of people.

I had a push and tug with them about which pneumonia vax they were sticking me with. I wanted the one for high-risk adults. It was two shots. They had the other.
This is a once only vax so I wanted it right.
I generally get my way. 
I contacted my GP’s office and got a reply back. They’ve never heard of the new Moderna shot. So I sent them a link to Harvard’s and Mayo Clinic’s websites discussing it. I guess I’m getting the old-school shot this year.
