The new google AI programs Gemini 2.5 and deep research are really nice

I’m behind the curve of keeping up with AI, but I’m seeing really good results with Gemini 2.5 and Deep research. This is totally worth the $20 a month. This is the first AI subscription I’ve paid for, and its well worth it. These programs are so superior to a regular search engine search. Deepseek is nice too, but I feel gemini 2.5 is better.

Its going to be exciting to see what else we come up with this decade.

Do they give research references? I find those helpful in separating accurate answers from hallucinations. This is why I prefer perplexity.ai

Deep research gives much better lists of references vs Gemini 2.5. I asked Deep research a question about a medical issue I have and it gave me 38 references. The vast majority are references to scientific papers or legitimate medical websites (webmd, medicalnewstoday, hopkinsmedicine, etc). There are a few wikipedia references and references to the website of the company that made the drug I asked a question about.

How does it compare to https://notebooklm.google.com/ ? (Or can you use the two together, coming up with sources with Gemini and then passing them to NotebookLM for summary & discussion?)

For me personally, I mostly use notebookLM when I download a book or scientific paper as a PDF and have questions I want to ask about the topic. So I’ll upload the book/paper and ask questions of it. But it only provides information from the document(s) I upload.

Gemini is more interactive and its information base seems to be the entire internet, not just the PDFs you upload. If Gemini gives you an answer and you need clarification, you can just ask it for more clarification. I don’t think Deep Research has this ability though.
