The new Jason Bourne: Jeremy Renner

Apparently the next installment in the series is The Bourne Legacy. I’m not sure if this a good thing or not. I really enjoyed the first three with Matt Damon but, for example, the James Bond series has bored the crap out of me for decades now.

Any opinions on Jeremy Renner? Looking at his imdb page, I don’t think I’ve seen him in anything. And what are Edward Norton and Rachel Weisz doing in the film? Perhaps Weisz will assume the role previously played by Julia Stiles. I would have liked Damon to have carried on but maybe this won’t suck.

He was amazing in The Hurt Locker. I’m tentatively excited about this.

Is he actually going to be playing the exact same character? If so, I’d prefer they didn’t pull a 007 with Bourne.

You must have missed Casino Royale. That was anything but boring. It was a fantastic reboot. The 2nd in the series didn’t fare so well, but Casino Royale kicked a bunch of ass, if you’ll excuse my don’t-know-how-else-to-put-it-ness.

I’ve seen a lot of his work. He’s a very, very good actor. He’s been nominated for 2 Oscars, one for The Hurt Locker and one for The Town. You should see both movies. He’ll be great.

It’s not going to suck, why would it? Besides having a great lead actor, it’s being co-written and directed by the extremely talented and intelligent Tony Gilroy. That’s why Norton and Weisz (not to mention Joan Allen, Albert Finney, Stacy Keach and Scott Glenn) are in it. Who wouldn’t want to work with Tony Gilroy??

This will be Tony Gilroy’s 3rd film, after the intelligent and entertaining Michael Clayton and Duplicity. Gilroy has proven himself as a director. As a writer, he wrote the screenplays for all the other Bourne films, so why would he do a worse job with this one?

All good points, Equipoise.

Both The Hurt Locker and The Town are in my Netflix queue. Think I’ll move them up…sure wish they were available in Instant.

I didn’t realize the continuity with Gilroy, so that does bode well. Huh, I’d heard that Damon dropped out because Greengrass wasn’t coming back to direct. I wonder if that’s even true.

Where we’ll have to disagree is Casino Royale. I found it dull and predictable, but I won’t forget that torture scene anytime soon. I loved the way Craig played it.

Concur.

Daniel Craig…

Yeah.

Just…yeah. Best. Bond. Evah. (IMHO)

It’ll be interesting to see how they transition from Bourne 1.0 to Bourne 2.0.

Hurt Locker’s on the DVD for this weekend.

Renner is one of my new favorite actors. Phenomenal work in The Hurt Locker and The Town. He 's also playing Hawkeye in the Avengers.

I read somewhere that he is not playing Jason Bourne. The movie is supposed to be a spinoff/reboot. they’re just keeping Bourne in the title for recognition. Don’t know if Matt Damon will be in it all.

I’ll give another thumbs up for Casino Royale. By far the best Bond movie since Goldeneye. The foot chase and fight scene at the beginning of the the movie is one of my favorite action sequences.

Thirded or fourthed as to Casino Royale. Sheer Bondian awesomeness.

I didn’t see The Hurt Locker, but Renner was terrific in The Town. He briefly appears in Thor, BTW, unidentified but obviously in the role that will become Hawkeye.

I don’t know the source of this info, but someone posted this on IMDB:

I’m starting to wish I hadn’t started this thread. :o

I shouldn’t have assumed that Renner was playing Bourne, but I like the scenario where Damon returns as Bourne in the fifth installment. Maybe Renner’s character is supposed to assassinate Bourne but Jason is so badass he doesn’t even appear.

maybe he’ll play Paz (the “asset” previously played by Édgar Ramírez)? *Ultimatum *did leave it set up for him to start questioning his own identity.

Heck yeah. Renner has both the athleticism and the presence required. I think he’s a perfect fit and also am keyed to see this when it comes out. Dude’s a little badass.

Renner was also excellent in a more subdued sort of role in 12 and Holding. He definitely has the acting chops to be good in this series.

By the way, finally a tough-guy American actor who isn’t actually an Australian.

Renner also co-stars in the new Mission Impossible movie that’s scheduled to be released in December.

I always liked Jeremy Renner ever since I saw him in the straight-to-video movie about Jeffrey Dahmer. This was long before anyone knew who he was. He kind of looks like a younger and better-looking Charles Bronson. I’m looking forward to this movie, I just hope they don’t go overboard with the shaky-cam shit.

Sir Not Appearing In This Film.

I think its a good choice, but I wonder why they picked a guy the same age to take over the franchise. Seems like they would get more mileage if they picked a guy who was a few years younger. Either way, I’m just glad they didn’t give it to Shia Labeouf.

If they can’t get Damon to keep making the films then Renner is a more an excellent choice to step into the role. He doesn’t have the name but he is a very athletic actor and should really pull this off well.

Frankly, I’m excited about the possibilities.

He’s a pretty good actor. People know about The Hurt Locker and The Town, but he also gave an interesting performance in Dahmer.

I still think Matt Damon is better, though, and Bourne is kind of played. I once even saw Matt Damon joke that the next Bourne movie should be called The Bourne Redundancy.
