To make an analogy. “This idiot somehow got a job as a science writer at a major magazine, but he knows less about physics than kindergarteners. Hell, even timecube guy knows more than him” is not a compliment to timecube guy’s knowledge of physics.
So, what I gotta do to get me that job!
Damned if I know. Sounds pretty sweet though, doesn’t it?
And Beef, you’re my Fantasy Football Yoda. You’re a smart guy, but you don’t know as much about the console market as you like to think. But you definitely know more than Pachter, a guy who is paid to know and just doesn’t bother.
Wow. You are as bad as my first wife.
Was she good at pointing out the obvious to you even when it eluded you too?
You should let it go. It didn’t read in any way how you are wanting to take it.
Oh for fucks sake.
“This guy doesn’t know shit about shit, even youtube commenters know more than him, hell, even SenorBeef knows more than him” legitimately reads as a praise of my knowledge on the subject?
I don’t care. It’s a lame, incorrect insult. But to pretend it wasn’t meant to be an insult, but was actually meant to be a compliment, is so stupid/dishonest/inexplicable that I can’t abide it.
YouTube commenters would be expected to know about the game industry wouldn’t they? Isn’t that the demographic they’re in? I think you’re missing where the YouTube commenters stand in the comparison.
No, youtube commenters are the dumbest people on the planet, and that’s how it was meant.
So, $499 for the PS4 as well and no internet connection required and you can sell and lend games.
Perhaps the Xbox will have to do the same now?
It’s $399 for the PS4. They just rocked Microsoft.
Engadget is saying $399 for PS4. With better hardware. And fewer restrictions. And not watching you at all times to see if you’re watching the commercials for achievements or fucking your rabbit.
I don’t see how MS doesn’t get rocked this gen.
Let’s dial back the outrage in this thread. The last few posts have been toeing the line with being snarky and insulting towards other members…so this is a reminder to take it to the Pit if you have problems with another poster.
Ah, I must have misread.
May I give an outsider perspective? I don’t own a Wii, PS3, or Xbox 360. I own a PC laptop that allows me to play…quite a few current games(Darksiders 1 and 2, but I can’t run Skyrim, I believe).
I thought the 360 and the PS3 were more or less equal, the blu-ray tech. being the only thing I liked more on the PS3. I don’t play online games, so I’m definitely and odd one these days.
Anyway, my opinion is that the PS4 looks to be the better product. $100 cheaper and full support of selling and lending out games, etc.
Then again, I think the Xbox(that is, microsoft) may end up backing down on their claims and then the consoles will be more or less equal.
Just my thoughts.
The only thing I can see changing the landscape is if Microsoft manages to make having the Kinect an absolutely essential component in your living room. Who knows, somewhere down the line, that could certainly be true.
Oh, please, please, please let them try! My one disappointment with the Microsoft presser was they didn’t spend more time talking about Kinect games. The Kinect is horrible for gaming, and the more Microsoft pushes it, the better it is for Sony.
Of course it’s the bundled kinect thats causing the price difference. Without it they’re at worst going to be able to match the PS4 price.
I wonder if the whole Kinect thing is going to end up hurting them as much as the whole DRM issues. I 'm not sure i don’t find the “Has to be plugged in, constantly listens to you and can’t be turned off etc” thing more annoying than the DRM. And for what? To relieve me of the tyanny of having to move my thumb 1/8th of an inch to change the channel.
I could easily see the Xbox going the same way as the Playstation Vita.
That’s my thought as an outsider. Stuff like used game DRM is all software. It doesn’t have to be included. I don’t know if lowering the price point $50 or so is an option with the Kinect included but, over all, I guess I still see time between now and the holiday release season. That’s not a ton of time but I can’t believe no one would want to adjust their direction.
I didn’t say the Kinect for gaming, I said the Kinect for “an essential living room component”. I don’t see it happening as it didn’t latch on before, and I’ve never seen it in action, and other smart TV technology seems to be gathering no momentum whatsoever - but who knows. That’s the only thing I, an extremely casual gamer with no skin in the game, can see as a game changer.
There were 2 games announced that were supposed to be totally kinect controlled. BOTH of those games (Ryse and the flying dragon one - forget the name) now backed off kinect, and are only marginally using it.
I think the new kinect is going to be better than the last gen, but I’d wager it’ll have much of the same problems it had before.
