And it seems as if they’ve heard my pleas. The next game will take place in Revolutionary France.
I wasn’t too enamored with the setting for the last two games, so much so that I didn’t play them, but I had been hoping for this locale since Assassin’s Creed II.
This has the potential to be amusing - the last game (the pirate one) had all of its French voices done by a Canadian actor cast, with quite a few having marked Quebec accents and grammar/syntax. Which was fine, as in-game they were employees of not-Ubisoft Canada. But if they keep the same guys to voice Revolutionary France, it’s going to be hilarious to us Froggies :).
Anyway, I admit, I’ll probably buy it on general principle. The Revolution seems like a perfect fit for the series. Treasons ! Freemasons ! Guillotines ! Kingly escapes ! Storming of Bastilles !
But if on the one hand I’m liking this setting since it might introduce audiences to the time period and to my country beyond the clichés (and, well, throwing guards off of one of Notre-Dame’s twin belfries is gonna be seven shades of awesome :)) ; ironically enough I kinda dread playing a game set in my home town and in a historical era I know pretty damn well. Where the previous games deviated from history, mucked characters up or completely distorted geographical scales, I didn’t really know any better. This time around it’s going to bug the hell out of me
