Unspoiled OP.
Wow. First of all, this has been by far the best of the reality shows this season for me. It has had challenges that actually made sense, contestants that actually were chosen for their skills, and judges that actually were fit to judge. There was some drama, but when there was, it was appropriate and not overplayed. If anything, it was underplayed — especially at the end.
I have to admit that I was disappointed when the judges selected Jag over Amy. Given her far superior skills as a chef and as a personality, I could only conclude that his bluff about Latino representation had succeeded. And then suddenly … bam! It turns out that Jag was a fraud, and Amy was brought back after all. With drama like that, you don’t need to edit any in.
So, I’m voting for Amy. She was my choice among the three. And again, great show.
I enjoyed it as well. I liked Amy much more than Rory. Too bad about JAG. He started to annoy me towards the end and seemed to be channeling Emeril at times (“Let’s JAG this up”!).
I already made my vote for Amy. I’ve been following the whole season, and was keenly disappointed that they selected Rory over her. I would never, ever watch a show hosted by Rory. I still don’t know what kind of food to expect from her. At least Amy and JAG knew what they wanted to do.
I can’t believe JAG lied like that. He didn’t think anybody would notice?
Like I said over at a foodie-related board, if that meeting between Jag and the FN Powers That Be wasn’t staged, then neither is any show on TFN rolls eyes
I don’t know – maybe Jag thought he’d have a better chance if he “pumped” up his resume. I agree, though, that it was stupid of him to do.
I was thrilled with Amy returning! I’ve always thought she’s had this competition nailed. She’s personable, knowledgeable, and has that “next door” quality FN so lovingly worships. Rory? Eh…
I love Amy- I was stunned when she was let go…
I hate Rory’s gums.
Agreed, to the point I have to comment on them every time I see them.
What did JAG do exactly that was so naughty? I liked his Latino fusion angle, but a week or so ago they mentioned a new show featuring Latino cooking. FN has been lacking in this cuisine for years, so good for them.
Not a fan of Amy so much after her attempt to quit a few weeks back. First rule of competitive reality tv - don’t ever say you want to quit. On camera, anyway.
According to the show-
He lied about being deployed to Afganistan as a Marine (he really is a Marine) and lied about graduating from Cuilinary School.
When presented with a chance to be honest he lied again.
I was also disappointed when they picked Rory over Amy. I like Amy’s style of cooking. JAG has been too over the top for me all through this competition, and his temper needs a little attention, I think. One of these days I might make deep-fried meatloaf, though!
I can’t believe he was so stupid as to lie about his background. Did he think they wouldn’t check? Dumbass.
I hate Rory’s gums, too! I’m pulling for Amy. I think I voted online for her (Amy) to be a contestant in the first place.
I agree that there needs to be more Latino cooking on TFN. I watched the new show Simply Delicioso, and I’ll be making the Chipotle Tamale Pie this week. I even bought ground turkey for the first time ever!
My husband and I are both addicted to this show! We both voted for Amy last night. Rory is just too inconsistent, but I think I’ll make those potatoes that she made on Rachael Ray’s show.
It’s too bad about JAG; I really thought he had some great personal qualities and his cooking skills are awesome.
On the general topic of the Food Network, I wish they’d have more just plain basic cooking lessons. Things like what fats are for. What they do. The different kinds there are. How to make a basic roux. How to cut a chicken and other food prep. Just basic stuff on the theory of cooking.
I agree with you Liberal. Also on how to store food, like freezing stuff. I have learned about freezing fresh ginger, lemon and lime zest, and lemon juice. Tomato sauce freezes well, too.
I expected that show “How to Boil Water” would be more basic, but except for knife skills, it wasn’t very basic.
I just have to say I’ve disliked Rory since she came in 2nd on the last reality show she was one, the one where they try to become popular in a small Texas town.
To her credit, she did tell the townfolk that, win or lose, she was moving there, and she did.
See if your public TV station has America’s Test Kitchen. I highly recommend it. They do two or three recipes a week, and explain how and why each step works. They also review gadgets/condiments/ingredients, etc.
Have you ever watched Good Eats with Alton Brown? While not completely like that, he usually does a good job of informing you why he’s doing what he’s doing.
Thanks, Contra!
ETA:
Yeah, I’ve seen Alton, but it was weird stuff that I don’t really like.
I tuned in to Good Eats as he was showing fried chicken. He did a great job of explaining everything from beginning to end. as opposed to Emeril who was supposed to be demonstrating a dish: “Take your fish stock…” with no explanation of how to make the fish stock.
The producers must have known about Jag already and decided to up the drama level by waiting till the last minute. And then they say he has a chance to do something good-- huh? How can anyone trust him anymore? I’m glad Amy is back–Gummy McGummington needs to go. I’m surprised Gummy made it that far, after the earlier show when everyone thought she was a bitch.
I voted for Amy, too. I’m friends/colleagues with one of her family members and I’ve wanted her to win since I first became aware of the show. I think she deserves it, too, so best of luck to her.
Jammer
I’ve wished for weeks they’d get rid of Jag. Cut the waterworks and grow a pair, man! And how he thought he’d get away with those lies - surely the people he served with would set the record straight. I think he needs to rethink his career and consider acting as a calling.
