The next person

does anyone ever consider who “the next person” is when using that phrase?

“I like boobs as much as the next guy” - What if the next guy is Russ Meyer?

Or

“I can be as big an a-hole as the next guy” - The next guy could be Dick Cheney.

Then that would be really weird as he’s dead.

Or “I can be as pedantic as the next guy”

:smiley:

It would be, ‘Or, “I can be as pedantic as the next guy.”’

:smack::smiley:

I can be as :smack: as the next guy.

Or perhaps one person should be designated as everyone’s “next guy.”

Waves hand… :smiley:

You know, when I read the OT about the next guy, I was reminded of an old Arlo Guthrie monologue/song intro where he talked about “the last guy”, who has it a lot worse than “the next guy”. I did a quick check and it’s on YouTube. Some of the references are a bit dated and may fly over the head of some of you youngsters, here, but still, give the monologue/intro a listen. You can ignore the song part if you care to, or listen to it if you care to. It’s up to you.

The Last Guy

Is the Next guy the same guy that’s with stupid?

(Points finger)

This was used as a joke in Indiana Jones & the Last Crusade.

I didn’t know that. They made a sequel to Temple of Doom?
