The next President of the United States

I think it’s pretty obvious that this is going to be a Gore vs. Bush thing, and that is just disappointing. Gore is okay, but he’s awfully blah. I guess he’d do a good job. I’m sure GWB is a nice guy and all, but he’s said that he can’t read a book longer than 200 pages. Okay, you lose my vote/consideration/respect.

I also think many of you are underestimating the Democrats’ chances. Where do you all live? I can pretty much guarantee you that California will go for the Democrats, and that gives them a big edge right there.

FTR, I’ll probably vote for Bradley in the primaries if he’s still in it by then. If Bush wins, I swear to god I’m moving to Canada. At least McCain doesn’t look like a complete idiot.

Bradley will go down in history as the “spoiler” for the democratic party. The republicans are going to use all the dirt that Bradley used against Gore to their advantage.

McCain, I believe will have to win or come real close in South Carolina to get the momentum needed to be a viable candidate. Bush’s gigantic campaign fund came from a lot of people who Bush owes big-time favors. I would like to see McCain pull it off on the republican side.

A large pizza pie normally has 12 slices but I can’t possibly eat that many slices so I have them cut it up into 6 slices.

If Gore becomes President, I hope he stays ‘blah’, because if he tries to enact many of his ideas we’re all in a world of hurt.

I don’t know how a Skeptic like David B. can like Gore - the man has embraced all kinds of pseudo-scientific junk. “Earth in the Balance” is a load of hooey from start to finish. He’s embraced all kinds of New-Age claptrap, and is a technocrat who thinks that he’s smarter than most and knows better than they do how to run their own lives.

I’m a Canadian, and won’t be voting. But I have a vested interest in the outcome, because Canada is economically locked to the U.S.

Let’s see. [adjusting crystal ball…]

He will be white. He will be someone with substantial political clout. He will routinely abridge the natural rights of peaceful honest people in his quest for power. He will participate in the enactment of thousands of new laws and regulations, including his own executive orders. He will thank his lucky stars that people do not think.

The next one after that? [peering…]

Hmmm… That’s funny. Same thing.

Shayna:

I’d believe that of Gore, if he’d do just one thing: if, when he was attacked by BRadley on that issue, if he’d explain why he changed his mind, rather than trying to deny the extremely anti-abortion-rights bent of his congrassional career. Instead, he has chosen to belittle or even deny the impact that the legislation he signed would have had on abortion rights in this country.

And, of course, it’s possible that he was always pro-abortion-rights, and all of his anti-abortion-rights votes in Congress were just false pandering to a conservative base in Tennessee.

But if he had truly had something that convinced him to change his mind on the issue, I’d expect him not merely to explain it, but to trumpet it, since it might convince others, against abortion rights, to see his side of the issue.

I have a feeling that Gore will be the next president.

Top reason: the economy’s still strong. Historically, that’s been the main influence on U.S. voters. I have a feeling Clinton himself would probably win again in November, if he could run again. The Repubs can whine about morals and extra-marital sex all they like; as long as the citizens’ pocketbooks are comfortable full, they’ll go for an incumbant.

Wild-assed forecast: Bradley will drop out after he loses in Delaware and South Carolina, leaving the field to Gore. Bush and McCain (and Forbes) will continue to battle each other while Gore sails on serenely un-questioned by intra-party adversaries.

The damage inflicted on Bush by the Republican squabbling (“He had SIXTY MILLION BUCKS and the approval of the ENTIRE REPUBLICAN POWER STRUCTURE and he couldn’t knock out the rich geek or the meatball from Arizona? What a LIGHTWEIGHT!!!”) will haunt him during the general election, giving the momentum to Gore, who will coast in in November 55%-45%.

Bradley will drop out after he loses in Delaware and South Carolina

The upcoming Delaware and South Carolina primaries are Republican primaries. I don’t think anybody will be surprised if Bradley doesn’t win among Republican voters… The Democrats don’t have any more voting for quite some time (March 7, maybe?). I’m not sure exactly why this is happening this way, but this is what I’ve gathered from watching all the TV coverage.

I heard some folks - probably sympathetic to the Dems, admittedly - say that if Bush gets the nomination, they plan on hitting him with all of the dirt that we all know is there, an they are saving that info for that time.

Frankly, this leads to three possible outcomes:

(1) The dirt is so eggregious that it swings the election to Gore.

(2) The people decide that the dirt is just “dirty politics” (not impossible - here in NC an encumbant lost an election and the public said it was about his negative campaigning) and swings the vote for Bush.

(3) The dirt is deemed irrelevant by he public, which make it (pardon the expression) a fair race, which I believe Bush would win.

The fact is, I find it hard to see Bush not being given the nomination simply because he IS the most viable candidate running against a Dem, unless this supposed “dirt” really IS as bad as dems hope.

Between all of the interests (read: $$$) behind him and a gullible public that sees the name Bush and gets all misty-eyed nostalgic for the good ol’ days, he certainly has a better shot against any Dem than McCain, IMHO, and ultimately, they GOP will put forth the candidate who they feel has th best shot against the Democratic candidate.

I really hope the dirt - if it exists - is NOT BS but actual evidence of what a creep he is, because the thought of a republican president coupled with majorities in the house and senate in this era of partisan politics leaves me cold.

Yer pal,
Satan

Oh, poop.

Erratum is right; the upcoming Delaware, South Carolina, Arizona, and Michigan primaries will not involve any Democrats. Guess I should watch more television.

Revision: Bradley will slump to the platform during a speech on network TV, victim of a cream-soda-induced seizure. The following morning, his people will announce that he’s dropping out due to health reasons.
