Thanks, guys, but carnivorousplant sent me a text copy direct to my email, which I then printed.
I read it, it’s not that good, not as godawful as I suspected, but nothing to look forward to really.
One question, though, for those who may have read it. In TOS and on TNG, there are direct references to the “disastrous first contact with the Klingons.” In “Broken Bow,” it seems like a very decent, friendly, albeit only two- or three-page long, contact between Archer and the Klingon High Council. Hell, the Chancellor even makes what, for a Klingon, is nothing less than a friendly appreciative gesture to Captain Archer. Nothing in here that could lead to decades of “unremitting hostilities.”
Way I heard it, the alien from Roswell tries out for a part as an alien on Enterprise, with hilarious consequences.* So it’s not like the crew of the Enterprise meet the guy or anything stupid like that.
Which specific movie/tv show is this a reference to? Just outta curiosity. (It’s been a while.)
By the way, I liked Voyager (only things I haven’t really liked have been the odd-numbered movies and most of DS9) and I’m excited about Enterprise.
It’s a no-go. When rumors first started drifting out about the show, the Vulcan character was reported to be a young T’Pau, the elderly matriarch of Spock’s family who presided at Spock’s aborted wedding in the episode “Amok Time.”
The young Vulcan character is actually named T’Pol, and as far as I know has no ties to any future events in established Trek history (though I’m sure they all will now, plus the next movie will just have to have a throw-away line about this Enterprise).
